Get to Know the Role
We're looking for a Legal Counsel to support our financial services in the Philippines. Join the GrabFin Legal team to help expand services while ensuring compliance and managing risks. You will allow you to collaborate with teams, influence product launches, and negotiate contracts in a dynamic setting. This is a senior individual contributor role.
You will report directly to the General Counsel - Philippines and will be based onsite at our Ortigas Grab office.
The Critical Tasks You Will Perform
- Provide strategic legal counsel on corporate and regulatory matters for Grab's payments and financial services in the Philippines.
- Collaborate with management and teams to ensure compliance with local regulations in daily operations.
- Engage with regulatory authorities for compliance and inquiries.
- Find and address legal risks, including reviewing new products and projects.
- Draft, review, and negotiate different legal agreements, such as contracts and partnerships.
- Develop and implement legal and compliance strategies to support business growth.
- Offer general legal advice on various matters, including dispute resolution.
- Stay updated on legal, regulatory, and industry trends, and communicate concepts for compliance.
What Essential Skills You Will Need
- Bachelor's or higher degree in Law and have been admitted to the Philippines bar.
- 8+ years of work experience in a law firm or in-house in a financial services company.
- Must have direct experience in industries regulated by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) or the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), particularly in Electronic Money Issuance (EMI) or Lending, with a proven ability to navigate complex regulatory frameworks and ensure compliance.
- Experience and strong understanding of regulatory frameworks related to financial services, payments and FinTech.
- Experience in auditing and corporate housekeeping is a big plus.
- High proficiency in both English and Filipino, able to engage with both internal and external partners, and communicate legal terms in a way that resonates with non-legal partners.
- Comfortable in dealing with fast changes and vague context.
