General Purpose of Job:
The Legal Associate is a licensed attorney or experienced paralegal who performs general legal services for Driscoll Health System and its affiliated entities (DHS) under the oversight and direction of the General Counsel.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential duties of this position include:
- Provides legal services including interpretation, advice, and representation to DHS.
- Provides legal counsel and guidance to ensure maximum protection of DHS’ legal rights.
- Provides professional interpretations and recommendations on issues requiring legal analysis and resolution.
- Prepares, drafts, and reviews legal documents, including but not limited to, contracts, leases, regulatory submissions, title documents, bylaws, organizational forms and other documents with legal effect. Prepares briefs, memoranda and other legal documents to address identified issues.
- Edits other written material for accuracy, format, and arrangement of material.
- Works with Risk Management and Human Resources to oversee regulatory and litigation matters.
- Represents DHS in contested matters before courts and enforcement agencies.
- Provides professional interpretations and recommendations to DHS on issues requiring legal analysis and resolution.
- Educates DHS staff through conferences, training sessions and oral presentations, advises clients on new developments in the law, and proactively identifies problem areas for clients to minimize risks.
- Maintains current knowledge of laws and regulations affecting DHS. Maintains familiarity with legal and health care regulatory developments.
- Reviews subpoenas and other requests for records and provides advice on disclosures.
- Assists with corporate matters.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience:
- JD from an accredited law school and admitted to practice law in the state of Texas or Paralegal degree with experience in health care law or corporate or nonprofit settings.
- Five years’ health care legal experience preferred.
- Excellent written, oral communication and presentation skills. Ability to establish and maintain good communications with administration, medical staff, other departments and personnel.
- Demonstrate polished interpersonal skills, high energy and flexibility.
- Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office)
