Job Summary:

Performs various legal and clerical duties in support of the Attorneys and Legal Department functions. The position includes both administrative and paralegal responsibilities. The person hired for this position will ultimately gain a substantial knowledge of all court and office procedures, rules and authority, litigation process and transacts the general business of the attorney court calendar and Legal Department subject to general supervision. Responsibilities:

  • Provide general office support for Kansas litigation attorneys
  • Maintain attorneys court call calendars
  • Calculate and calendar court deadlines
  • Format, proofread, and finalize detailed correspondence, pleadings, and other legal documents; prepare and finalize basic correspondence and other documents as necessary. Take responsibility for formatting, consistency and accuracy on documents
  • Establish and maintain paper and electronic filing systems; classify, sort and file correspondence, records and other documents.
  • File pleadings in state trial courts (Courts of Appeals, Supreme Court, or Federal Court if necessary); communicate with court staff, as necessary, keep current with changes in court rules and filing procedures.
  • Entering all activities into the system after attorneys return from court.
  • Ensures accuracy in the system.
  • Perform general research and support activities to assist attorneys
  • Provide support or the Kansas attorneys’ monthly billing process, track attorney time records and billing.

Requirements

 Preferred Job Experience:

  • Must have work experience in an office environment and be comfortable working with the computer.
  • High level or proficiency with word/WordPerfect and Outlook, experienced with Excel
  • Outstanding organizational, interpersonal, and administrative skills
  • Excellent attention to detail with the ability to multi-task
  • Must be self-motivated and able to meet deadlines under pressure
  • Must possess a willingness to learn and exhibit flexibility in a fast paced environment
  • Must have the ability to work as part of a team, as well as to work independently

Skills Required

  • Work experience in an office environment
  • Computer proficiency
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word or WordPerfect and Outlook
  • Experience with Excel
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and administrative skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to multitask
