Sutherland is building the next generation of AI-powered solutions that transform customer experiences across support channels. We partner with global brands and industry leaders to modernize customer engagement, operations, and learning ecosystems through innovative technology, cloud platforms, and data-driven solutions.
If you're passionate about combining learning design, software development, and AI innovation, this is an opportunity to help shape how thousands of employees learn and perform at scale.
Job DescriptionWe are looking for a Learning Technology Developer who can both design effective learning experiences and build the technology that delivers them.
This role sits at the intersection of Instructional Design, Software Development, and AI Innovation. You will work closely with subject matter experts, stakeholders, and learning professionals to transform business requirements into engaging, measurable learning solutions.
You'll create interactive e-learning courses, AI-powered simulations, practice environments, assessment tools, and internal applications that help learners develop skills faster and more effectively.
This is not a traditional instructional designer role and not a pure software development role. We're seeking someone who is comfortable doing both and can demonstrate proven experience in learning design and production-level software development.
What You’ll Do
- Design learning experiences that align with business goals and measurable performance outcomes.
- Convert approved content and learning outlines into storyboards, interaction designs, and fully functional learning solutions.
- Develop and deploy SCORM and xAPI-compliant e-learning solutions for LMS environments.
- Build interactive simulations, role-play activities, and AI-powered learning experiences.
- Design AI-enabled features such as:
- Virtual customer personas
- Automated assessment and scoring
- Adaptive feedback mechanisms
- AI coaching and tutoring experiences
- Develop and maintain internal learning tools and applications using modern development frameworks.
- Create, test, and optimize prompts, structured outputs, and evaluation methods for AI-driven solutions.
- Conduct technical and instructional quality assurance for learning content and applications.
- Troubleshoot LMS integrations, learner tracking, bookmarking, completion logic, and reporting issues.
- Collaborate with instructional designers, SMEs, developers, and business stakeholders to translate performance gaps into scalable learning solutions.
- Create technical documentation, implementation guides, and handoff materials.
- Provide guidance on instructional design best practices and technical feasibility across projects.
Required Qualifications
To be successful in this role, candidates should demonstrate experience in both instructional design and software development.
Learning Design Expertise
- Strong understanding of instructional design principles and adult learning methodologies.
- Experience creating measurable learning objectives and aligning assessments to desired outcomes.
- Familiarity with instructional design frameworks such as ADDIE, SAM, or similar models.
- Ability to produce design documentation, storyboards, learning blueprints, and course outlines.
Learning Technology & LMS Knowledge
- Experience developing or supporting SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004, and/or xAPI learning content.
- Understanding of LMS functionality, learner tracking, bookmarking, completion status, reporting, and learning records.
Software Development Skills
- Hands-on experience developing production-quality applications using:
- Python
- JavaScript and/or TypeScript
- Experience working with APIs, JSON, and modern web technologies.
- Knowledge of Git version control and collaborative development workflows.
- Experience deploying applications using Docker or containerized environments.
AI & Automation Experience
- Experience integrating Large Language Models (LLMs) into applications or workflows.
- Ability to design prompts, structured outputs, evaluation methods, and safeguards for AI-powered solutions.
- Understanding of responsible and scalable AI implementation practices.
Communication & Collaboration
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Comfortable working directly with business leaders, SMEs, designers, and developers.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with any of the following is highly desirable:
- FastAPI, Flask, Django, or similar Python frameworks
- Next.js, React, Remix, Vite, or related front-end frameworks
- Storyline 360 and Rise 360
- RAG implementations, vector databases, agent workflows, or model fine-tuning
- LMS platforms such as Moodle, Cornerstone, Docebo, or SCORM Cloud
- Contact center, customer service, BPO, or support operations environments
- PostgreSQL or relational database design

- Linux environments and self-hosted solutions
Experience Guidelines
- Ideally 5+ years of combined experience across instructional design and software development.
- At least 2 years of experience building and deploying learning technology solutions or comparable software products.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating both:
- Learning design artifacts (storyboards, objectives, design rationale, assessments)
- Production code, applications, or learning technology solutions
- Candidates who have built platforms, tools, or systems used by other learning professionals are highly encouraged to apply.
