About the Opportunity:

The Learning Technologist for Accessibility is a member of the Digital Learning & Design (DLD) team, part of the Sheridan Center for Teaching and Learning. DLD is a team of learning designers, learning technologists, and educational media producers supporting Brown faculty in exemplary methods of integrating technology into the teaching environment for all Brown courses. 

Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for the support of accessibility focused software that integrates with our learning platforms; for validating the accessibility of our learning technologies and learning experiences; and providing guidance to instructors in the accessible use of DLD supported learning technologies. This role will participate in research and deployment of all our learning technologies with a focus on ensuring they are accessible.

 

In this role, candidates can expect to: 

  • Serve as the service owner for support of DLD managed accessible learning technology applications.

  • Consult with instructors and departments to address accessibility concerns for the digital components of their courses.

  • Offer coaching and advice for instructors actively remediating their digital course content.

  • Serve as primary support contact for accessibility support inquiries.

  • Assist with response to inquiries for accessibility and general support from multiple channels for DLD supported technologies: shared email, ticketing system, consultations, etc.

  • Collaborate with colleagues and vendors to plan support for systems and services. 

  • Coordinate with other services owners of learning technology applications (e.g., automated lecture capture). 

  • Explore and implement opportunities to improve efficiency and efficacy of support delivery. 

  • Maintain knowledge of learning technology tools and trends; assist with implementation of new services in support of teaching and learning at Brown.

  • Mentor DLD student staff who are assisting with accessibility related projects.

 

This is a fixed term position with a current end date of 05/31/2028, which may be extended based upon available funding.

Qualifications:

 

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education and experience. 

  • 2-3 years experience providing academic support as a learning technologist preferably in a College/University setting. 

Job Competencies

  • Knowledge of web accessibility standards and practices. 

  • Ability to understand and implement the fundamentals of learning technology concepts.

  • Project management skills, such as detail orientation and attentiveness to timelines. 

  • Strong communication and customer service skills. 

  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team. 

  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse student and faculty population.

  • Conversant in the literature on inclusive, evidence-based teaching and learning.

  • Reflective practice (e.g., openness to feedback and input, attentive to professional development needs.

  • Strong commitment to collaboration and collegial interactions.

  • Highly effective listening, verbal, and written communication skills.

The successful candidate is expected to work on Brown's Providence campus for a minimum of two days per week with the flexibility to work remotely on other days.
