Summary Generated by Built In

AMI is looking for an ambitious and talented Learning Design Contractor to join our flexible consultant pool, supporting the Learning Design team with additional capacity during periods of high demand. This is not a single-project engagement; you'll be called on across a range of learning design assignments as they arise, working independently and delivering high-quality work with minimal day-to-day oversight.

  • Design, develop and refine workplace learning content and programs in line with AMI's methodology and quality standards

  • Take a brief or scope from the Learning team and translate it into a structured, engaging holistic learning solution with minimal hand-holding

  • Work independently across the full learning design lifecycle; from initial concept through to final, delivery-ready assets

  • Flag risks, gaps, or scope questions proactively rather than waiting for direction

  • Manage own timelines and deliverables against agreed milestones, communicating early on any changes

  • Collaborate as needed with Senior Programme Managers, Learner Success Managers, and Impact Intelligence team members to ensure design integrity through delivery

  • Incorporate feedback efficiently and maintain AMI's brand, tone, and instructional standards across all outputs

Requirements
  • Proven experience in learning experience design

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage a variable, project-based workload with minimal supervision

  • Strong grounding in adult learning principles and practical, behaviour-change-oriented design

  • Excellent written communication and ability to translate complex or ambiguous briefs into clear, engaging learning content

  • Reliable self-management: meets deadlines, communicates proactively, and delivers consistent quality without close direction

  • Responsible use of AI within provided scope

  • Experience designing learning content for an African business, entrepreneurship, or management/leadership context

  • Familiarity with Socratic or discovery-based facilitation methodologies

  • A degree or equivalent qualification

  • 5+ years of experience in learning design

  • Comfortable working autonomously in a fast-paced, flexible engagement model

  • A proactive, solutions-oriented mindset with a high bar for quality

  • Genuine interest in people development and organizational learning across the African continent.
