This role is part of the Wellington Transport Alliance (WTA), a partnership between Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency, Fulton Hogan, and WSP. The WTA oversees the maintenance and operations program for state highways and roading networks across the Greater Wellington Region, ensuring high service standards for both the community and the region's roading network.

The opportunity

As a Leading Hand in our WTA Maintenance Team, you will take charge of an operational crew and participate in hands-on tasks across the Wellington State Highway network. You will play a key role in mentoring and guiding your team, setting an example through your leadership to ensure tasks are completed efficiently and to high standards. While this role will primarily operate in the Wairarapa, it may occasionally involve work in other locations across the Greater Wellington Region.

This position is predominantly nightshift, working a minimum of 40 hours from Sunday through Thursday.

In addition to the above you will: 

• Take part in pre-start meetings and risk planning before starting work
• Manage the plant and materials associated with in-house crews.
• Assist with training staff on the correct operations of machinery and equipment

To be successful in this role, you will:

• Have a minimum of a current class 2 licence with W,T,R endorsements
• Have experience leading a crew
• Have excellent organisation and communication skills
• Have an understanding of traffic management requirements on sites
• Be reliable and hardworking
