Senior Technical Business Analyst, Private Markets
This role sits at the intersection of Russell Investments’ Private Markets platform and technology, with a primary focus on supporting private markets investment teams through data, analytics, and process solutions. The Lead Technical Analyst will work closely with Private Markets professionals across private equity, real estate, and infrastructure to translate investment workflows, fund operations, and portfolio reporting needs into scalable technology and data solutions.
The ideal candidate brings deep, hands-on experience in private markets and a strong understanding of fund structures, investment lifecycle processes, and portfolio analytics. This individual will leverage their domain expertise to shape and deliver technology solutions that enhance investment insights, operational efficiency, and reporting capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner directly with Private Markets investment and operations teams to support deal lifecycle tracking, portfolio monitoring, and fund operations through improved data and technology solutions.
- Translate private markets workflows, including commitments, capital calls, distributions, valuations, and NAV reporting into clear business and technical requirements.
- Lead the design and implementation of data and reporting solutions that support fund-level and deal-level analysis, performance measurement (IRR, TVPI), and LP reporting.
- Collaborate with technology teams to ensure solutions align with the realities of private markets data structures and investment processes.
- Drive improvements in data quality, governance, and integration across private markets systems and datasets.
- Support and enhance reporting processes used by investment teams, including quarterly reporting, portfolio analytics, and ad hoc investment insights.
- Manage workstreams or projects, including planning, stakeholder engagement, and delivery execution.
- Facilitate adoption of new tools and processes within Private Markets teams, including documentation and training.
- Contribute to the evolution of the Private Markets data architecture and technology roadmap, ensuring alignment with investment team needs.
Required Private Markets Qualifications & Experience
- 1-2+ years of direct experience in private markets, including private equity, real estate, infrastructure, or similar asset classes.
- Demonstrated understanding of private markets fund structures, investment lifecycle, and portfolio reporting, including:
- Capital calls and distributions
- Commitments and unfunded capital
- NAV and valuation processes
- Fund and deal-level performance metrics (IRR, TVPI, DPI)
- Experience working closely with investment professionals, deal teams, or fund operations teams.
- Ability to translate complex private markets concepts and workflows into structured requirements and scalable solutions.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to bridge investment and technology teams effectively.
- Experience supporting or improving LP reporting, portfolio analytics, or fund reporting processes.
Required Technical & Analytical Skills
- 5+ years of experience in a business analyst, data analyst, or similar role supporting financial systems or data platforms.
- Proficiency in SQL and Excel for data analysis and validation.
- Familiarity with data platforms, ETL processes, and business intelligence/reporting tools.
- Experience contributing to data integration, data modeling, or reporting solutions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience leading or contributing to projects in asset management or financial services environments.
- High attention to detail, particularly in working with complex financial and investment data.
