Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Software Engineer (Data Developer) with deep expertise in data platform engineering, Big Data ecosystems, cloud modernization, and enterprise-scale data solutions. In this role, you will lead the design and delivery of complex batch and streaming data pipelines, drive modernization of legacy data systems, and shape data engineering best practices across teams. You will partner closely with architects and product stakeholders to influence platform strategy and guide engineering execution.
In this role, you will:
- Lead complex technology initiatives including those that are companywide with broad impact
- Act as a key participant in developing standards and companywide best practices for engineering complex and large scale technology solutions for technology engineering disciplines
- Design, code, test, debug, and document for projects and programs
- Review and analyze complex, large-scale technology solutions for tactical and strategic business objectives, enterprise technological environment, and technical challenges that require in-depth evaluation of multiple factors, including intangibles or unprecedented technical factors
- Make decisions in developing standard and companywide best practices for engineering and technology solutions requiring understanding of industry best practices and new technologies, influencing and leading technology team to meet deliverables and drive new initiatives
- Collaborate and consult with key technical experts, senior technology team, and external industry groups to resolve complex technical issues and achieve goals
- Lead projects, teams, or serve as a peer mentor
- 5+ years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
Technical Leadership & Architecture
- Lead the architecture, design, and development of large-scale batch and streaming data pipelines using PySpark, Spark, and Kafka.
- Drive modernization of legacy data processes into cloud-native data platforms (GCP/AWS/Azure).
- Define and enforce data engineering standards, scalable design patterns, and platform-wide best practices.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and influence the data platform roadmap.
- Oversee end-to-end implementation of data ingestion, transformation, quality, and distribution workflows.
- Lead the development of ETL/ELT processes using enterprise ETL tools to support high-volume/low-latency data needs.
- Guide teams in optimizing pipeline performance, scalability, and reliability.
- Ensure robust observability, monitoring, and automation across data platforms.
- Partner with Product Owners, Architects, Analysts, and cross-functional leaders to define requirements and deliver solutions.
- Translate complex business and data problems into scalable engineering designs.
- Collaborate across teams to ensure data governance, quality, lineage, and compliance standards are met.
- Provide hands-on technical leadership, mentoring, and direction to engineers across multiple pods.
- Lead code reviews, solution reviews, and performance improvement initiatives.
- Champion engineering excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Expertise in SQL tuning, performance optimization, and large-scale data modeling.
- Deep hands-on experience with Big Data technologies: PySpark, Spark, Hadoop, Hive.
- Strong experience with ETL/ELT tools such as Informatica, Talend, DataStage, or similar.
- Proficiency with SQL and NoSQL databases (Oracle, PostgreSQL, MongoDB).
- Strong experience with Kafka and real-time streaming architectures.
- Hands-on expertise in GCP (BigQuery, Cloud Composer), with additional experience in AWS/Azure.
- Strong Linux/Unix system and command-line skills.
- Solid experience with CI/CD tools: GitHub, Jenkins, Gradle, etc.
- Experience with monitoring tools like Splunk, Grafana, CloudWatch, AppDynamics, Elastic.
- Strategic thinker with strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
- Proven ability to lead teams and drive complex technical initiatives.
