What the role is

A Genesys Cloud Lead Software Engineer is a talented software development professional playing a crucial role in the success of the Genesys Cloud platform.  In this role, you will work closely with product managers and other engineers throughout the platform to take Genesys to the next level.  This role sits within the core platform team and reports to a team lead, also an engineer.  The team’s purpose is to provide a rock-solid, secure, highly available, and feature-rich foundation for the larger Genesys Cloud contact center solution.  Specifically, you will join the team behind a microservice that performs all aspects of routing conversations to agents.

What the role isn’t

This role isn’t a lot of hand-waving and paper-pushing.  It is development intensive.  However, it’s not about cranking out lines of code or meeting unreasonable deadlines handed down from management.  We feel that quality solutions are better than just “getting it done”.  The notion of empathy pervades Genesys, and this extends to allowing engineers to explore, learn, and grow, not just deliver by a deadline.

You have a desire to work in an internationally distributed team of motivated, engaged engineers, consulting with team members, product management, customer support engineers, DevOps, testing teams, and others to define, design, and deliver a world-class technology-forward contact center solution for customers of all sizes, including many names found on your household shelves or in your phone’s app list.  You are smart, eager, proactive, independent, and friendly.  You are fluent in software programming, researching solutions and best practices, and getting the details right.

What you’ll do:

  • Take an ownership role in new features, from design to implementation to testing and deployment
  • Tackle the backlog of bugs and required improvements that arise from a constantly evolving codebase
  • Review teammates’ work to share suggestions and stay apprised of what’s changing in the code
  • Act as the cornerstone of a small local team of developers, engendering engagement and community
  • Stay up to date on wider platform changes in order to implement updates and best practices as necessary
  • Eventually, join the rotation of on-call engineers and respond to critical service alerts – something we naturally strive to minimize!

Who you are (minimum requirements):

  • You have a bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or a related field
  • You have 8+ years of software development experience in Java or a similar language
  • You are self-driven and comfortable taking the initiative to work asynchronously with your team
  • You can break down complex problems to find and implement the most elegant solution
  • You are energized by building things that will be heavily used
  • You have excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • You have excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • You design not just to solve a problem, but also with maintainability, testability, monitorability, and automation as top concerns
  • You have used distributed version control systems, such as Git, and know the difference between Git and GitHub
  • Bonuses: you are experienced with microservice architecture, cloud-based software development (e.g., AWS), NoSQL database systems, distributed event streaming systems (e.g., Kafka), and REST

  • Improve the overall platform through shared library contributions
