The Role
About this role:
Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to join the Network Reliability Engineering team within the Network Services organization. This role will be instrumental in driving the reliability, automation, and architectural maturity of network-related applications and tools across the enterprise.
The ideal candidate will lead efforts to proactively and reactively identify issues across a portfolio of network applications, collaborate with application owners to diagnose root causes, and implement sustainable solutions. This includes contributing to architectural improvements, building intelligent monitoring systems, and developing automation frameworks that reduce manual intervention and improve service quality.
This role will also be responsible for expanding the scope of reliability practices across all network tools and applications, ensuring they meet defined service level objectives. The candidate will help evolve the team's capabilities by integrating observability platforms (e.g., Grafana), building automation pipelines, and exploring agent-based architectures to support proactive engineering and customer-facing diagnostics.
In this role, you will:
  • Lead complex technology initiatives including those that are companywide with broad impact
  • Act as a key participant in developing standards and companywide best practices for engineering complex and large-scale technology solutions for technology engineering disciplines
  • Design, code, test, debug, and document for projects and programs
  • Review and analyze complex, large-scale technology solutions for tactical and strategic business objectives, enterprise technological environment, and technical challenges that require in-depth evaluation of multiple factors, including intangibles or unprecedented technical factors
  • Make decisions in developing standard and companywide best practices for engineering and technology solutions requiring understanding of industry best practices and new technologies, influencing and leading technology team to meet deliverables and drive new initiatives
  • Collaborate and consult with key technical experts, senior technology team, and external industry groups to resolve complex technical issues and achieve goals
  • Lead projects, teams, and serve as a peer mentor
Required Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • 5+ years of experience in software architecture, including cloud-native and on-premises environments, API design, database management, and user interface development
  • 5+ years of Expert-level proficiency in programming languages such as Python/JavaScript/Java/.NET, with the ability to write clean, scalable, and maintainable code
  • 3+ years of Deep understanding of observability platforms (e.g., Grafana, Splunk) and messaging systems (e.g., Kafka), including their integration, configuration, and optimization for reliability engineering.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Proven ability to design and implement automation frameworks that streamline operational workflows, reduce manual intervention, and improve application reliability.
  • Hands-on experience with AI-driven engineering practices, including building agent-based systems that can proactively and reactively respond to application events and performance anomalies.
  • Demonstrated ability to correlate data across multiple tools and platforms to generate actionable insights and drive intelligent automation.
  • Strong understanding of application lifecycle management, including monitoring, diagnostics, patching, and compliance.
  • Ability to lead modernization initiatives across a broad portfolio of network applications, expanding observability and automation coverage.
  • Self-motivated and adaptable, with a passion for continuous learning and the ability to quickly adopt new tools and methodologies.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work across teams and influence architectural decisions.
