IS THIS SOMETHING THAT INTERESTS YOU?

A successful candidate will be a strong software developer, proven leader, and good networker according to the role’s responsibilities with an interest in Supply Chain Management Software for Food Safety, Compliance, Procurement and CSR. You’ll be capable of becoming productive lead Engineer on an existing project within 8 weeks and of creating a brand new project from scratch within 3 months without technical assistance.

It’s essential to the individual in this role, to take on some management responsibilities (e.g. line management, providing performance feedback, and approving leave).

What you will be doing

The successful candidate will take on the following responsibilities.

  1. Develop high-quality software
    1. Set an example and coach others in writing code with robust tests and CI ensuring our solutions remain intuitive to new starters and consistent across products.
    2. Set an example and coach others in reviewing code to ensure changes meet requirements, handle edge cases (particularly in integrations across products), and improve best practices.
    3. Improving the process for requesting and monitoring successful deployments, coaching others to do the process.
    4. Participate in long-term product & technical decisions across products, seeking out advice from peers and non-technical departments (e.g. Product, UX, etc).
    5. Facilitate, lead, and recommend initiatives and communities that help the team become better and move with new trends.
  2. Collaborate with others (particularly across other departments)
    1. Collaborate pro-actively with customers and colleagues across departments to identify and resolve needs of teams and customers in a timely manner (including via RFPs and SOWs).
    2. Maintain strong connections communicating politely with candour, humility, and honesty.
    3. Constructively give, openly receive, and swiftly act on feedback.
    4. Live the company values: Simplicity, Service, Innovation.
    5. Coach others to lead projects (epics, support cases, and features), unblock themselves and deliver pull requests to the master/main branch every iteration.
  3. Help evolve and sustain the business
    1. Working with the Product Owner and Stakeholders to define and execute objectives & key results without requiring much input from stakeholders.
    2. Working with the Product Owner to autonomously define and prioritise the team’s vision & roadmap to meet OKRs and KPIs identifying dependencies without requiring much input from stakeholders.
    3. Provide documentation and coaching to help others resolve support cases and incidents by interpreting information from various sources (other products, databases, logs, etc) to verify an issue and its root cause.
    4. Resolve and co-ordinate the resolution of support cases and incidents that span multiple products autonomously with consistent updates to the customer.
    5. Identify new and existing product & technical problems, opportunities, and synergies worth investment.

 

What we are looking for

The successful candidate will demonstrate the following essential attributes.

  • Databases: Strong experience with MS SQL.
  • Programming: Strong experience architecting software and setting tech direction at scale.
  • Backend: Strong experience with .NET framework, OAuth/SAML, and queuing services.
  • Frontend: Strong experience with React, cross-platform development, and accessibility.
  • Testing: Strong experience with testing, static typing, linting, and compilation tooling.
  • Versioning: Strong experience with version control and CI/CD (e.g. Git & Github Actions).
  • Results-Focused: Strong experience with planning and demonstrating results with an agile mindset.
  • Leadership: Experience of leading productive technical meetings internally and with customers.
  • Service-Oriented: Experience anticipating, recognising and meeting needs of teams and customers.
  • Communication: Ability to communicate well with technical and non-technical colleagues.
  • Problem-Solving: Determination to resolve problems (e.g. performance) with critical thinking skills.

It would be advantageous (but not essential) to have the following desirable attributes.

  • Experience coaching experienced members through difficult technical challenges.
  • Led a team and/or demonstrated an ability to be a productive Software Engineer in at least three teams.
  • Experience using .NET/TypeScript and CI/CD.
  • Confidence in talking directly to customers face-to-face.
  • Achievement of a third level qualification in Computer Science or similar field.
  • 10+ years professional experience in Software Engineering.
