Position Overview: 

BDR Thermea is looking for a Lead Software Engineer to join our innovative development team. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring high quality software solutions that meet industry and company standards. This role involves working closely with cross-functional teams to design, document, develop and validate embedded software for BDR products.  

In addition, the Lead Software Engineer will take a leadership role by providing guidance and support to the development team, ensuring that all members are aligned with project goals, meet deadlines and collaborate effectively.  

 

Key objectives: 

 

  • Ensure that all software delivered meets BDR Thermea's quality and compliance standards. 

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive software documentation. 

  • Coordinate and participate in the development of embedded software for BDR Thermea solutions. 

  • Provide leadership and guidance to other developers, ensuring focus on project objectives and meeting deadlines. 

 

Position in the Organization:  

  • Reports to: Development Team Manager. 

 

 

Major Roles and Responsibilities: 

  • Coordinate the team's efforts to meet project objectives by closely tracking and driving technical issues to completion. 

  • Collaborate with stakeholders and the team to refine backlog items and ensure alignment with business objectives. 

  • Act as a technical expert and process leader, guiding the team to adopt industry best practices and promoting continuous improvement. 

  • Ensure proper documentation and technical specifications are created and maintained throughout the project. 

  • Participate in cross-team initiatives aimed at improving BDR Thermea's processes and workflows. 

Additional Responsibilities: 

  • Develop embedded software in C, working closely with your peers. 

  • Create and maintain the technical specifications and architecture 

  • Validate delivered software through unit and functional tests. 

  • Address embedded software challenges, such as low-level issues, PCB validation, debugging, End Of Line testing, space constraints, and optimization. 

  • Adhere to project timelines and follow internal coding standards. 

 
 

Leadership and Team Support Responsibilities: 

  • Provide ongoing mentorship and technical guidance to developers, supporting their professional growth and ensuring their work is aligned with project goals. 

  • Facilitate the smooth onboarding of new team members, helping them to integrate quickly and effectively into the team and project workflow. 

  • Proactively identify and address potential challenges to maintain steady progress throughout the project. 

  • Foster a collaborative environment where best practices are followed to ensure the team remains focused and works efficiently towards common goals. 

 

 

Relevant Skills and Experience: 

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Experienced software engineer with expertise in embedded systems and the programming language. 

  • Basic knowledge of CAN is required (and CANOpen is preferred). 

  • Strong knowledge of software development, validation and testing procedures. 

  • Experience in writing technical documentation. 

 

Preferred Experience: 

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in embedded software development. 

  • Familiarity with heating and cooling systems. 

  • Experience with IAR tools for NXP microcontrollers. 

  • Proficiency in Cunit, Lint, and Jira. 

  • Knowledge of Scrum/Agile development processes. 

  • Ability to read and interpret electronic diagrams. 

 

Education & Languages: 

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (BAC+5, Master II) in software development or a related field. 

  • Languages: Fluent in English.
