Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Software Engineer.
In this role, you will:
- Lead complex technology initiatives including those that are companywide with broad impact
- Provide technical leadership to the team & mentor junior team members to help them deliver the work assigned to them and train them to uplift the capability.
- Leads and/or performs modeling, simulations and analysis efforts for assigned projects.
- Verifies program logic by overseeing the preparation of test data, testing and debugging of programs.
- Participates in overall systems testing during the development SDLC phase.
- Confirms the migration of application code to the production environment after releases are installed.
- Develops new documentation, participates in the development of department technical procedures and designs user guidebooks as needed. These documents include restart instructions and flow diagrams.
- 5+ years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education.
- Atleast 3+ years strong experience in leading mainframe teams.
- Exposure to mainframe modernization
- Knowledge of Umbrella and Assembler, mainframe APIs
- Experience in driving Automation initiatives on Mainframes
- Exposure to CI/CD and DevOps framework on Mainframes
- Experience in using AI coding agents to solve real-world software engineering problems, including code generation, debugging, automation, test creation, code reviews, and rapid prototyping, resulting in improved productivity and faster delivery
- Experience in implementing and reviewing Non-Functional Requirements (NFRs) such as performance optimization, scalability, and reusability and ability to define/refine them
- Ability to work in Agile delivery teams and collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders.
- Good experience in leading large to medium projects from the mainframe-end
- Strong analytical and communication skills

- Proactive and can work independently
- Deep Hogan expertise for the owned area: business-critical paths, peak cycles, operational bottlenecks, and where risk accumulates.
- Sets the delivery and quality standard across the team: patterns, checklists, and Definition of Done enforcement.
- Drives refinement and decomposition for predictability and risk reduction; mentors the team.
- Translates Hogan constraints into technical strategy and influences product/leadership decisions.
- Provides functional & technical consultation and support in the development of computer applications and programs.
- Analyzes business requirements, designs and writes technical specifications to design or redesign computer solutions.
- Develops original and/or complex code - assists in preparing programming specifications and completes programming tasks to maintain or modify current programs or to develop less complex computer programs using COBOL and Hogan framework.
- Experience in change management, process improvement, and stakeholder collaboration.
- Ability to manage priorities effectively and deliver against timelines.
- Proven ability to collaborate with business and technical teams on system implementations.
- Experience leveraging AI-assisted tools for code development, optimization, testing, and operational efficiency.
