As a Lead Software Engineer, you will report to the Senior Engineering Manager, Freight Audit and Pay engineering team that builds and operates systems enabling accurate freight invoice validation, carrier settlement, and payment processing across Nike's global supply chain. You will be the technical leader of the squad, owning the technical roadmap and providing hands-on technical direction whilst working closely with Product Managers to define and drive delivery priorities. You will mentor Software Engineer III, SWE II, and SWE I engineers through code reviews, design coaching, whilst remaining an active individual contributor delivering high-impact technical work.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FORYou will have -
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
A minimum of 7–12+ years of backend and/or data engineering experience.
Deep expertise in at least one of Java, Python, or Scala, and confident fluency in SQL and data modelling.
Proven experience designing and shipping production Microservices, RESTful APIs, and event-driven systems.
Demonstrated ability to lead significant technical designs, write architecture decision records (ADRs), and drive them through review and adoption across engineering and product leadership
Hands-on experience with modern data platforms—Databricks, Spark, Delta Lake, Unity Catalogue (or equivalent)—and orchestration tools such as Airflow.
Solid cloud experience (AWS, GCP, or Azure) including IAM, secrets, networking, and cost-aware design.
Experience with distributed messaging (Kafka, SQS), caching (Redis), and search (Elasticsearch/OpenSearch) where relevant.
Strong test-driven development discipline, including productive use of AI tools like GitHub Copilot, Cursor
Experience with CI/CD, observability (metrics/tracing/alerting), and incident response.
Excellent written and verbal communication; able to influence senior engineering leaders, product partners, and business stakeholders through clear technical storytelling.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with application configuration and integration in supply chain or logistics contexts—working with SaaS platforms, master data (carriers, locations, rates, service levels), and EDI/API integrations between TMS, ERP, and WMS systems
Integration architecture patterns connecting logistics systems (TMS/WMS) with financial systems (ERP/AP), middleware platforms (MuleSoft, SAP PI/PO), and data synchronization across distributed systems.
As the Lead Software Engineer for Freight Audit and Pay, you will own the technical vision and delivery for mission-critical invoice processing, carrier settlement, and financial integration systems—whilst shaping how the broader engineering organization builds scalable supply chain platforms.
Technical Roadmap & Strategic Leadership
You will own and drive the squad's technical roadmap in close partnership with Product Managers—translating business priorities into technical strategy, defining quarterly technical themes, making scope and complexity trade-offs, and ensuring alignment with enterprise platform direction
You will proactively identify technical debt and platform gaps, frame the cost of inaction in business terms, and secure investment for foundational work that enables future business capabilities
You will lead stakeholder engagement—providing regular status updates to senior product and business partners, explaining technical constraints and opportunities, gathering requirements and feedback, and incorporating stakeholder input into technical designs whilst maintaining engineering quality
System Design & Delivery Leadership
You will drive technical design reviews within your squad and across related teams—choosing architectural patterns, defining service contracts and data models, establishing non-functional requirements (performance, reliability, security), and representing your squad in cross-org technical forums
You will design and own integration pipelines connecting transportation systems (Blue Yonder TMS, Manhattan WMS), financial systems (SAP S/4 ERP), carrier communication channels (EDI, APIs, SFTP), and freight audit platforms—ensuring master data consistency, real-time event synchronisation, data quality validation, and accurate accrual workflows
You will collaborate with globally distributed engineering teams—leading technical alignment across time zones, representing your squad in enterprise architecture reviews, and ensuring consistent patterns across the broader supply chain engineering organization.
