We work with some of the top research organizations and facilities in the country including multiple institutes at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

We are seeking a Lead Scientific Imaging Systems Engineer to own our Signals Image Artist platform infrastructure end to end — across Linux server administration, GPU/HPC infrastructure, storage, and vendor-facing upgrade planning. You will manage a multi-server SImA deployment, lead its ongoing standardization and upgrade to current vendor-supported versions, and enable advanced imaging analysis capabilities (including AI-based analysis modules and GPU-accelerated workflows) for research teams who depend on it daily.

Required Skills:

  • Systems Administration Expertise: Extensive hands-on experience administering Linux servers and workstations in a production research or enterprise setting, including SLES and/or RHEL.

  • Image Artist / Scientific Imaging Platform Experience: Direct experience installing, upgrading, and supporting Signals Image Artist or comparable high-content imaging analysis platforms, including client/server version management.

  • GPU & HPC Proficiency: Working knowledge of NVIDIA/CUDA driver stacks, GPU hardware troubleshooting, and HPC scheduling concepts.

  • Storage & Networking Fundamentals: Experience with enterprise storage protocols and diagnosing storage/network connectivity issues on production servers.

  • Vendor Support Management: Demonstrated ability to open, manage, and resolve technical issues through formal vendor support channels (hardware and software vendors alike).

  • A Reliability Mindset: A disciplined, documentation-driven approach to change management — staged upgrade paths, risk assessments, and rollback planning before touching production systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Standardization – Assess and align server configurations and Image Artist deployments across all sites to establish consistent, well-documented production/dev environments and baselines.

  • Upgrade Leadership – Plan and execute vendor-supported Image Artist upgrades (server + client side), working directly with vendors to resolve blockers and documenting the risk/benefit case for each release.

  • GPU/HPC Infrastructure – Install, configure, and troubleshoot NVIDIA/CUDA driver stacks and GPU compute nodes, resolving compatibility issues and supporting HPC cluster integration.

  • AI/Advanced Imaging Enablement – Support rollout of AI-based analysis tools (e.g., Phenologic AI) and benchmark performance across GPU vs. non-GPU setups.

  • Data Migration & Storage – Lead large-scale data migrations between environments, including iSCSI/LUN troubleshooting and NetApp storage connectivity, minimizing downtime/data loss.

  • Security & Compliance – Apply OS patches, endpoint protection updates, and vendor mitigations fleet-wide to maintain supportable states.

  • Vendor/Stakeholder Management – Own support tickets and escalations; act as the technical liaison for platform status and upgrade planning.

  • Documentation & Reporting – Maintain runbooks, upgrade documentation, and equipment inventories; deliver regular status reports on platform health and progress.
