Position Overview:
The Lead Sales Engineer at Alteryx is a trusted technical advisor who helps large enterprise customers modernise their analytics strategy with AI, automation, and cloud-based data solutions. In this role, you will play the pivotal role of bridging the gap between customer needs and Alteryx’s technical capabilities. This role involves working closely with the go-to-market team to provide technical expertise, product demonstrations, and solution recommendations tailored to prospective clients. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of data analytics, integrating with Cloud Data Warehouses, on-premises to cloud migration journeys, AI, and the evolving tech industry. Works independently with limited supervision. May manage projects/processes. Coaches and reviews the work of lower level professionals. Problems faced are difficult and often complex. Influences others regarding policies, practices and procedures.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Lead technical engagements with strategic customers, providing pre-sales support for pre-qualified opportunities and aligning Alteryx solutions with their AI, automation, and cloud analytics strategies.
- Design and deliver impactful demos and proof-of-concepts (POCs) showcasing the feasibility and value of Alteryx solutions in the customer’s environment, including addressing technical objections and demonstrating how Alteryx provides competitive advantages in cloud, hybrid, and on-prem environments
- Stay ahead of industry trends, including advancements in AI, cloud-native architectures, data governance/security best practices, and how Alteryx integrates with modern cloud data warehouses and AI/ML workflows
- Remain up to date on Alteryx solutions and features, competitive products, and emerging technologies while maintaining familiarity and adherence to all company methods and procedures.
- Advise on best practices for AI-driven data automation, cloud cost optimization, and scalable analytics workflows, helping customers accelerate digital transformation.
- Work with management to drive sales and to mentor junior team members to improve their abilities, skills and knowledge of the Alteryx platform, sales engineering strategies, and client facing skills.
Qualifications:
- 6+ years of pre-sales or consultant experience of which at least 3+ in data analytics, business intelligence, or data science, preferably in the software industry.
- Knowledge of and hands-on experience with public clouds (AWS, Azure, GCP) and cloud data warehousing solutions like Snowflake and Databricks. Certifications with each are a plus. Understanding of SQL, Python, R, Apache Spark or similar product or language are also a plus.
- Strong knowledge of data analytics, data science, ETL processes, AI/ML workflows, automation, and model deployment within cloud environments. Proficiency in using Alteryx or similar data analytics tools is highly desirable.
- Experience setting up data connectivity for both on-prem and cloud sources, including ODBC configurations for on-prem systems and OAuth/SSO-based integrations for cloud platforms.
- Demonstrated ability to handle complex selling situations, including ability to engage with Line of Business Leaders and IT stakeholders, including data scientists, analysts, and C-level executives, to drive change through analytics adoption.
- Ability to handle a fast-paced environment and continuously re-prioritize while maintaining a constant focus on participating in the sales process.
- Travel up to 40% or as required.
