Roles Summary/Purpose

GE Vernova Power Conversion & Storage Division provides Electrical power conversion systems for various Naval and marine applications. Typical scope includes:

  •  MV & LV power converters

  • Motors, transformers,

  • Switchgear, and control as well as the associated power systems engineering.

  • The Power Systems Engineer role is considered a lead role within the business and expected to be an individual with technical capability within power electronic power converters with a strong emphasis on the application into a system. The successful candidate is expected to take ownership of system project specifications, power system studies, bill of materials, drawings, and test procedures to ensure all power system equipment meets detailed customer requirements as an integrated system. Further, the candidate is expected to take responsibility for the project engineering schedule.

Essential Responsibilities

Work with the project manager to achieve the project objective by managing the engineering portion of projects ·

Ensure all designs and practices implement safety, quality and values.

Prepare detailed technical specifications for large marine and naval power systems that capture customer requirements which include defining system operation scenarios, plant load priorities, system control parameters.

Develop detailed engineering plans and oversee project engineering execution

Drive communications throughout the organization to ensure there is alignment on schedule and technical risk

Maintain ownership of all engineering artifacts associated with specific projects including power and propulsion system model, power system studies, drawings, bill of materials, specifications, test and commissioning procedures.

Ensure projects are completed within schedule and budget.

Interface with customers to ensure requirements and expectations are understood.

Interface with Sourcing and Purchasing to ensure suppliers products are meeting specifications.

Interface with the Manufacturing and Test departments to ensure power system components produced are fit for purpose.

Ensure engineering quality is maintained and all items produced on the project are fit for purpose.

Support sales by reviewing customer requirements and highlighting differences/gaps between those requirements and GE Vernova capabilities.

Manage design reviews for power systems.

Collaborate with other GE Vernova PCS businesses to understand GE Vernova PCS technologies and how to apply them to satisfy customers in North America.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited university or equivalent experience.

  • 5+ Years’ experience in power systems, power electronics, power conversion, and/or naval power systems.
  • 5+ years working in a project environment · Familiar with Power System Protection, Control, Monitoring Automation and integration in a Marine environment.
  • Familiar with Power Management Systems for Marine utilizing Switchboard and Generator Control systems for load sharing, synchronization, and power control.
  • Familiar with MATLAB/PLECS, ETAP, SKM, or other modeling tools.

Willingness to travel up to 30%.
