The Lead Project Engineer (LPE) is the technical and execution leader responsible for driving end-to-end delivery of electronic test solutions, systems, and capabilities across the Electronic Solutions business unit. In partnership with the Electronic Test Community of Excellence (ET COE), this role ensures that programs are executed with engineering rigor, strong cross-functional coordination, and a focus on quality, schedule, and performance. This role is central to the Olathe Engineering Site, influencing strategy, mentoring engineers, and ensuring test systems meet the needs of complex aerospace electronic products.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities: 

Program and Technical Leadership:

  • Serve as the engineering focal for assigned programs, owning execution quality, schedules, and technical risk management.
  • Provide direction and coordination across hardware, software, systems, and test engineering teams to ensure integrated and consistent technical solutions.
  • Drive development and sustainment of electronic test equipment (ETE), automated test systems, and test methodologies used across Electronic Solutions product lines.
  • Ensure alignment with ET COE standards, processes, and roadmaps.

Project Execution: 

  • Build and maintain detailed project plans including milestones, resource needs, risk registers, and mitigation strategies.
  • Lead design reviews, technical checkpoints, configuration management activities, and compliance assessments.
  • Monitor engineering metrics and proactively drive corrective actions to keep programs on track.
  • Coordinate with internal and external suppliers supporting test system development.

Cross-Functionial Collaboration:

  • Partner closely with Program Management, Operations, Quality, and Integrated Supply Chain to ensure seamless transition of test capabilities into manufacturing.
  • Serve as the primary technical interface to leadership, customer engineering teams (internal and external), and functional groups within Electronic Solutions.
  • Engage with the ET COE to leverage standard architectures, champion reuse, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Mentorship and Engineering Excellence:

  • Guide, coach, and mentor engineers within Electronic Solutions and the Olathe site test engineering community.
  • Promote best practices in requirements management, verification and validation, safety, and compliance.
  • Lead problem-solving activities using structured methodologies such RCCA and FMEA.
  • Contribute to strategy development for test capability modernization, digital transformation, and automation.
Qualifications

You Must Have: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in electronics development, test engineering, or aerospace product development.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience leading technical teams or engineering projects (formal or informal).
  • Strong understanding of automated test systems, electrical test equipment, and environmental test methodologies.

  • Experience within Honeywell Aerospace, particularly Electronic Solutions or Electronic Test COE roles.
  • Experience with DO-178, DO-254, requirements management tools, and systems engineering processes.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing test architectures such as NI, LabVIEW, TestStand, and Python-based frameworks.
  • Demonstrated success delivering engineering projects at the Olathe site or similar high-mix production environments.
  • Strong communication skills, including presenting in formal design reviews and leadership forums.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced technical environment.
