  • Technical Proficiency: Experience writing business requirements (BRDs) for software engineering teams and working with tax APIs or tax engines.
  • Domain Knowledge: Deep understanding of cost-basis accounting, information reporting (Form 1099 / Form 1042-S family), tax withholding, and state/international tax implications for digital products.
  • Documentation & Onboarding: Oversee the collection, review, and validation process for tax documentation (Forms W-9, W-8 series, self-certifications) across clients, vendors, and counterparties.
  • Withholding & Remittance: Ensure accurate calculation, withholding, and timely remittance of tax on US-source fixed, determinable, annual, or periodical (FDAP) income and foreign partnership allocations.
  • Annual Reporting: Manage the end-to-end preparation, reconciliation, and filing of annual tax information returns with the IRS and foreign tax authorities.
  • Process & Technology Optimization: Partner with IT and Operations to design, implement, and enhance operational workflows and automated systems for onboarding, withholding calculations, and regulatory reporting.
  • Audits & Risk Management: Lead internal control assessments, respond to tax authority audits or inquiries, and manage risk remediation plans.
  • Policy & Advisory: Monitor ongoing legislative and regulatory developments (including IRS updates and OECD guidance), assess business impact, and update policies, SOPs, and employee training accordingly.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. J.D., LL.M. in Taxation, or Master’s in Taxation strongly preferred.
  • Certifications: CPA or Enrolled Agent (EA) designation preferred.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Reporting Accuracy: 100% accuracy on customer tax document generation and regulatory filings.
  • On-Time Delivery: Successful release of tax updates prior to statutory regulatory deadlines and tax seasons.
  • Audit Compliance: Zero material penalty or deficiency findings from internal/external audits and tax authority inquiries.

What We Do

SoFi wasn’t built to be a bank. Or a technology company. We were built for one mission: help people achieve financial independence so they can realize their ambitions. Redefining an entire industry isn’t easy work—and it’s not for the faint of heart. It takes a certain kind of team. People with diverse perspectives and expertise, united by a common sense of purpose. People willing to challenge assumptions but always do the right thing. People proving that innovation and responsibility don’t have to compete, but can come together to create something truly unconventional in the world. For the last eight years, we’ve been charting this new path forward. We call it The SoFi Way. At SoFi, we don’t just talk about culture: we live it. The SoFi Way is how we show up every day, how we make decisions, and how we build for our members, clients, and each other.

Why Work With Us

Together with our members, we’re changing the way people think about and interact with personal finance. We’re a next-generation Fintech company using innovative, mobile-first technology to help our members reach their goals. The industry is going through an unprecedented transformation, and we’re at the forefront.
