The Lead Product Owner is responsible for translating product strategy and regulatory requirements into actionable work for Agile delivery teams supporting Humana's Interoperability Compliance portfolio, with a primary focus on Electronic Prior Authorization (ePA) API capabilities and related CMS interoperability mandates. The Lead Product Owner conveys product vision and roadmap priorities to Agile teams through backlog management, feature input, user story development, and stakeholder engagement. The Lead Product Owner works on problems of diverse scope and complexity ranging from moderate to substantial.

The Lead Product Owner maximizes the value of products delivered by Agile teams supporting Electronic Prior Authorization (ePA) APIs, FHIR-based interoperability solutions, and regulatory compliance initiatives. This role serves as the primary liaison between business stakeholders, compliance teams, product management, architects, and delivery teams to ensure regulatory requirements are translated into scalable technology solutions that meet business and customer needs.

The Lead Product Owner is accountable for backlog prioritization, feature input, user story development, acceptance criteria definition, and delivery execution. This role works closely with the Lead Product Manager, other PO's  and business stakeholders to understand CMS interoperability regulations, prior authorization requirements, implementation timelines, and industry standards. The Lead Product Owner ensures delivery teams have the context and direction required to successfully execute strategic initiatives while balancing compliance, business value, and technical priorities.

Serves as the Agile team's primary contact for information, work prioritization, and decision-making. Exercises independent judgment and decision-making on complex issues regarding regulatory interpretation, product execution, stakeholder alignment, and delivery priorities. Works under minimal supervision and uses independent judgment requiring analysis of variable factors and determination of the best course of action. Able to guide and mentor others to help develop best practices.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field.
  • 4+ years of experience as a Product Owner, Business Analyst, Product Manager, or related role supporting healthcare technology initiatives.
  • Experience working with Agile methodologies, Scrum practices, and Agile product management tools such as Azure DevOps (ADO) or Jira.
  • Experience translating complex business, regulatory, and operational requirements into user stories and product backlogs.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare interoperability concepts, APIs, and healthcare data exchange workflows.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams including Product Management, Engineering, Architecture, Compliance, Operations, and Business stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize competing requirements while balancing business value, compliance obligations, and technical dependencies.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience facilitating requirements discussions, backlog refinement, sprint planning, and user acceptance activities.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple initiatives in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment.
  • Experience creating and maintaining product documentation, backlog artifacts, training materials, process flows, user stories, and operational procedures. and presentation content for technical and non-technical audiences

 

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting CMS Interoperability and Prior Authorization Final Rule requirements.
  • Knowledge of Electronic Prior Authorization (ePA) workflows, FHIR APIs, Da Vinci Implementation Guides, HL7 FHIR standards, and healthcare interoperability frameworks.
  • Experience working with Prior Authorization systems, utilization management processes, payer-provider workflows, or healthcare operations.
  • SAFe Agile Certification, Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO), or related Agile certification.
  • Experience collaborating with vendors, healthcare providers, EHR partners, or interoperability solution providers.
  • Familiarity with Patient Access, Provider Access, Payer-to-Payer, and Prior Authorization APIs.
  • Experience with Azure DevOps (ADO) backlog management, feature planning, and Agile reporting.
  • Knowledge of healthcare regulatory compliance, CMS mandates, and health information exchange initiatives.
  • Experience participating in interoperability testing, implementation, or production support activities.
  • Master's degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, Information Systems, or related field.

Work at Home Requirements: To ensure Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees’ ability to work effectively, the self-provided internet service of Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees must meet the following criteria: At minimum, a download speed of 25 Mbps and an upload speed of 10 Mbps is required; wireless, wired cable or DSL connection is suggested. In certain roles, the minimum recommended internet speed required by Humana may not be sufficient for business needs. Humana reserves the right to require associates to upgrade their internet service if necessary. Work from a dedicated space lacking ongoing interruptions to protect member PHI / HIPAA information.
Travel: While this is a remote position, occasional travel to Humana's offices for training or meetings may be required.

Pay Range

The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.


 

$115,200 - $158,400 per year


 

This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
