Lead Process Engineer - LNG

KBR Sustainable Technology Solutions (STS) provides holistic and value-added solutions across the entire asset life cycle. These include world-class licensed process technologies, differentiated advisory services, deep technical domain expertise, energy transition solutions, high-end design capabilities, and smart solutions to optimize planned and operating assets.

KBR is seeking a Lead Process Engineer - LNG for its Houston office. Under broad direction, this role provides technical and people leadership for a team of engineers, including responsibility for performance management, coaching, and professional development. The position oversees and directs a significant segment of a large, complex engineering program—or an entire program of moderate scope—encompassing planning, budgeting, organization, and execution. The role carries accountability for measurable assets, including assigned staff and budget, and requires extensive experience typically gained through an undergraduate engineering degree and a minimum of ten (10) years of relevant experience, with most incumbents possessing 15 or more years of industry experience.

Functional job responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Execute process engineering work for large‑ and medium‑sized projects, or defined scopes within major projects, in accordance with applicable industry codes, standards, and best practices.
  • Lead and perform key process engineering activities, including licensor evaluation and selection; process modeling and simulation; development of heat, material, and utility balances; preparation of process flow diagrams (PFDs, process safeguarding flow diagrams (PSFD), Safe Chart, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID), development of the project Basis of Design; definition of system design parameters; and design and/or rating of process equipment such as vessels, columns, heat exchangers, pumps, and related systems.
  • Conduct and support a wide range of process studies, including process optimization, flare and relief systems, blowdown and depressurization, vent system design, cooling and heating media studies, utility system sizing, condensate handling, produced solids management (including sand handling), and produced water treatment evaluations.
  • Participate in process safety activities, including HAZOP, HAZID, and other process safety assessments.
  • Provide technical guidance and expertise on complex engineering issues requiring independent analysis, sound judgment, and professional decision‑making.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering.
  • Minimum of eight to ten (8–10) years of relevant process engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated experience executing and leading FEED (Front End Engineering Design) projects; LNG project experience is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated design engineering experience gained within a major EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) organization rather than an operating or production facility.
  • Proficiency in industry‑standard process engineering and simulation tools, including Aspen HYSYS, Aspen Plus, and PipeSim.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and multiple stakeholders.
