Lead Platform Engineer

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Lead Platform Engineer to join our team and take charge of our platform infrastructure. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in maintaining, optimising, and evolving our technology stack while aligning with our business strategy and goals.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement the overall infrastructure strategy for Koodoo.
• Manage key performance requirements for critical applications and services.
• Oversee infrastructure provisioning and configuration using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles.
• Lead the development and optimisation of CI/CD pipelines.
• Implement and maintain configuration management and secrets management tools and practices.
• Oversee the implementation and management of monitoring and observability tools.
• Develop and maintain processes for alert management and incident response.
• Ensure integration of security, compliance, and regulatory requirements into workflows.
• Develop and maintain disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
• Lead capacity planning and resource management efforts for dynamic workloads.
• Implement strategies for cost optimisation and efficient resource allocation.
• Manage and mentor the platform engineering team.
• Foster collaboration between the platform/DevOps team and other departments.
• Evaluate emerging platform and infrastructure trends.
• Make recommendations and implement new technologies to improve efficiency and performance.

Mandatory Skills:

• Proficiency in Terraform for infrastructure provisioning and management
• Strong experience with Kubernetes, including deployment, scaling, and management
• Extensive knowledge of Google Cloud Platform (GCP), particularly:
  1. Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE)
  2. Load Balancers
  3. Serverless solutions (Cloud Run, Cloud Functions)
  4. Virtual Private Cloud (VPC)

• Experience with Prometheus for monitoring and alerting
• Proficiency in Grafana for metrics visualisation and dashboarding
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools, specifically GitHub Actions and/or CircleCI
• Solid understanding of networking concepts, including:
  1. IP addressing and CIDR notation
  2. GCP Private Service Connect (PSC)
  3. Firewalls
  4. TLS/SSL protocols

Ideal Qualifications:

• Experience with NGINX and Ingress Controllers in Kubernetes environments
• Knowledge of DNS management, particularly with Cloudflare and Google Cloud DNS
• Familiarity with OAuth and experience implementing authentication solutions like Auth0
• Understanding of GCP Identity and Access Management (IAM)

Optional Skills (Nice to Have):

• Experience with MongoDB Atlas
• Knowledge of the Grafana LGTM stack (Loki, Grafana, Tempo, Mimir)
• Familiarity with HashiCorp Vault or other secrets management solutions

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent work experience)
• 8+ years of experience in a Platform Engineering or DevOps role
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Strong understanding of security best practices and compliance requirements in cloud environments
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative environment
• Commitment to staying updated with the latest trends and best practices in cloud-native technologies
