About the Role
Atlassian is looking for a Lead Paid Search Strategist to serve as the strategic lead for our global Paid Search program. This is a senior individual contributor position responsible for channel vision, technical governance, and portfolio performance, with no direct reports.
You will own the global Paid Search engine across our product portfolio (Jira, Confluence, Trello, Loom, and more) defining brand and nonbrand portfolio strategies and advancing our bidding, attribution, and measurement systems.
In this role, you will:
- Own and govern global paid search strategies, analysis, optimization, and best practices.
- Drive in-house search automation and bidding strategy: scaling custom bid algorithms, value-based bidding, and next-generation automated campaign formats.
- Direct agency partners on tactical search execution, campaign buildouts, day-to-day pacing, and strict quality assurance standards across all regional and product accounts.
- Partner with Data Science to execute causal lift experiments (incrementality and attribution) and embed search data into enterprise MMM, MTA, and customer lifetime value models.
- Lead search forecasting and budget reallocations across product lines to maximize efficiency and capture high-intent demand.
- Evolve paid search strategies for AI Overviews, shifting SERP layouts, and conversational answer engines like ChatGPT and Perplexity to defend and expand high-intent nonbrand real estate.
- Collaborate with Ad Ops lead to define data resilience requirements, aligning first-party data capture and server-side tracking architectures under shifting privacy standards.
- Monitor auction insights, define aggressive brand defense strategies, and deploy automated counter-conquesting logic against market competitors.
- Direct ad copy experimentation, asset group strategy for AI-driven formats, and end-to-end message alignment from search query to landing page.
- Communicate search performance insights to executive leadership and collaborate with Product Marketing (PMM) and Web teams to align search capture with product roadmaps.
Your Background & Qualifications
Key Qualifications:
- Experience: 8+ years of Paid Search (SEM/PPC) experience in high-growth B2B SaaS or enterprise technology environments.
- Budget Authority: Proven track record of autonomously managing and forecasting multi-million-dollar annual search budgets at enterprise scale.
- Technical Direction: Demonstrated ability to define requirements and direct technical implementation/QA for Conversion APIs, offline conversion pipelines, custom attribution models, and value-based bidding architectures (without needing to write custom code yourself).
- Measurement & Experimentation: Expertise in causal experimentation (geo-lift, holdouts), attribution modeling (MMM), and tracking customer journeys across product-led Growth (PLG) and enterprise sales-assisted funnels.
- Agency & Stakeholder Leadership: Experience directing media agencies and effectively communicating performance narratives, trade-offs, and business cases to senior/executive leadership.
Preferred / Desirable:
- Working knowledge of SQL, BigQuery, Google Ads Scripts, or enterprise BI dashboards (Tableau, Looker).
- Hands-on familiarity with international search expansion and multi-lingual campaign governance.
