Job Description Summary
1. Drive and support environmental performance reporting by collaborating across Operations to deliver sustainable long-term growth using innovative and green solutions, while making a positive impact on patients and society.2. Lead the development and implementation of site-specific Biodiversity Management Plans (BMPs) and sustainable procurement strategies for raw materials to align with global biodiversity frameworks and regulatory expectations.
3. Ensure preparedness for emerging regulations such as CSRD, ESRS E4, and TNFD, with a strong
focus on nature-positive outcomes.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
Develop site-specific biodiversity management plans (BMPs) in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders that include baseline biodiversity assessments, identifying priority habitats and species, applying mitigation hierarchy, monitoring and evaluating BMP effectiveness.
Assess nature related risks and opportunities in the sourcing of raw materials that include traceability and supplier engagement for standard requirements and certification efforts etc.,
Drive execution and delivery of environmental sustainability targets of Novartis across Waste, Water, Biodiversity and Sustainable Sourcing
Support the business define strategy and action plan in areas across Nature and Biodiversity related topics
Active support in limited and reasonable assurance of environmental sustainability indicators in line with ISAE 3000 and other standards as applicable.
Drive projects to ensure adherence and preparedness to comply with emerging regulations like EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), Green Taxonomy, Article 964 (Swiss regulations) etc.,
Desirable Requirements:
Master’s degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or related field.
5-7 years of experience in biodiversity conservation, ecological monitoring and/or sustainable sourcing, preferably in pharma or related sectors.
Strong understanding of biodiversity frameworks (e.g., TNFD, IPBES), sustainable commodity supply chains, and ecosystem services valuation to support nature-positive strategies and regulatory compliance.
Experience with biodiversity risk assessment tools e.g. IBAT, Natura 2000 including data collection, qualitative and quantitative analysis and conservation planning.
Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and project management skills.
Fluency in English; working knowledge of additional languages (e.g., German, French, Spanish) desirable.
Ability to operate effectively in a global matrix environment.
