As a premier NPI, NGP1 is fast paced and setting new standards for Edison Works. The Program Mechanical Design team is a large organization with multiple sub-teams. This role is aligned to a sub-team spanning multiple commodities and design phases, including cost-out design, hardware delivery, test, certification/qualification, and technical publications. This role operates in a highly cross-functional environment, enabling rapid learning and product maturation, and will help lead the charge on FLIGHT DECK adoption within Edison Works, applying lean principles to improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost across the NPI lifecycle.
The NGP Lead Design Engineer owns the design, development, and qualification of advanced military products, specifically hot structural components. The engineer is responsible for planning/executing technical design tasks including analysis and manufacturing support of assigned hardware in addition to program management of hardware cost, weight, and schedule deliverables. The role has some autonomy but is focused on execution of activities within an operating discipline covered by standard functional practices and procedures. Some judgment may be required but this is typically with guidance. This position reports to an engineering manager in Evendale, OH with the opportunity to integrate with various internal and external engineering disciplines.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Execute the design, analysis, and evaluation of assigned components for advanced military products 
  • Adhere to business standards, practices, procedures, and product requirements 
  • Leverage prior mechanical design experience and broaden knowledge of one's own technical discipline to meet product deliverables within schedule and budget constraints 
  • Demonstrate systems-thinking mentality to understand how work of one's team integrates with others to achieve product requirements 
  • Exhibit autonomy to make decisions within a defined requirements framework while resolving design challenges in situations which require technical knowledge and judgment 
  • Review designs and consult with senior technical leaders for evaluation of work 
  • This role requires sound interpersonal skills to develop strong internal and external customer relationships by serving as an interface point within GE 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in engineering from an accredited university 
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in a mechanical design or mechanical analysis engineering position
  • This role requires the successful candidate to maintain a US Government Security Clearance; prerequisite for a security clearance is U.S. Citizenship. Preference will be given to candidates who currently hold US Government Security Clearance.
