Responsibilities
- Apply developed knowledge, computer modeling capabilities, experience, and strong problem solving skills to develop innovative and cost effective solutions in designing process equipment
- Provide leadership and develop innovative approaches and solutions for advancing UOP’s knowledge in fluid and solid mechanics with major emphasis in the solid mechanics area
- Assess where mechanical issues limit UOP’s process technology and target efforts to break through these barriers
- Conduct field troubleshooting studies related to pressure vessels, reactors, specialty equipment, internals, and piping system problems
- Apply developed knowledge to complete the detailed design, re-rating, remaining life studies of pressure vessel equipment and piping systems.
- Utilize excellent planning and organizational skills to manage multiple projects concurrently
- Utilize excellent communication skills to work with co-workers and customers, write reports, and make presentations
- Represent UOP in customer meetings and vendors concerning technical matters
- Mentor other analysts individually and by conducting internal training seminars
- Masters in mechanical engineering or M.S. degree with 10- 15 years of relevant work experience/ PhD with 10 yrs of experience
- Strong familiarity with the theory and applicability of FEM and its application concepts. Familiarity with principles and application of Boundary Element Method is plus
- Developed proficiency using solid mechanics codes (i.e. ANSYS, ABAQUS, APDL or equivalent)
- Developed knowledge of various vessel, structural, and piping design Codes (i.e. ASME Section VIII, AISC, ASME B31.3, and UBC)
- Developed knowledge of static and dynamic analysis of pressure vessels, piping systems, and support structures (i.e. COMPRES, CAESAR, WRC 107, or equivalent)
- Developed knowledge of fitness-for-service Codes and software (API 579, PREFIS, and REACT)
- Demonstrated expertise in troubleshooting field and equipment piping vibration problems
- Developed knowledge of the design of piping system components (i.e. expansion joints, flanges, gaskets, valves)
- Developed knowledge in computer programming for developing user subroutines (i.e. C++ and/or PYTHON)
- Developed knowledge of CAD (i.e. Microstation 2D and 3D or equivalent)
- Represent UOP in customer and vendor meetings concerning technical matters.
- Developed proficiency is translating physical systems to manageable computer models, and the interpretation and applicability of the results
- Developed knowledge of other mechanical equipment (i.e. heat exchangers, heaters, and rotating equipment) a plus.
- Presents papers at technical meetings and participates in national professional groups and technical organizations.
- Application of Six Sigma methodologies and tools in product development efforts is a plus.
