Why this role is important to us
We are looking for an experienced Lead Legal Counsel to support our North American Market Unit as part of our Group Legal team. We are a global team with a few lawyers working out of the US and much of the team in Europe. The team is responsible for providing legal advice on a broad range of commercial matters, with the main focus on software as a service contracts with SimCorp’s customers, suppliers and partners.
What you will be responsible for
Our platform, SimCorp One, is one of the world's leading investment management solutions used globally by international financial institutions and equity funds.
As our new Lead Legal Counsel, your focus will be to support SimCorp’s sales teams in negotiating large complex IT contracts with a main focus on cloud, IP and business services. You will work directly with the management and business of SimCorp, serving as lead counsel on strategic deals.
Other responsibilities will include:
- Contribute to the establishment and continuous refinement of contract templates (SaaS, Business Services)
- Resolving issues that arise in existing commercial relationships and handling pre-litigation legal disputes and inquiries, through day-to-day advice
- Provide ad-hoc advice on various legal matters such as intellectual property rights, corporate law and various other areas of law
Your job will focus on negotiation of large SaaS and services contracts in our North American market unit, and you will therefore be expected to travel regularly within the US and Canada for negotiations and to support the cooperation with the North American market unit.
What we value (our requirements)
As our preferred candidate you:
- Have a degree in law and have been practicing as an in-house counsel or as an attorney for at least 5 years
- Have substantive experience with drafting and negotiating complex IT contracts on the sell side and advising tech companies
- Know the legal aspects of software as a service and IT outsourcing, preferably within fintech
- Have a good understanding of commercial issues and are able to balance the need for sound business advice with the need for maintaining a high standard of legal advice
- Can work independently and accommodate tight deadlines
- Willingness to work on site in the NY office 2-3x per week as per our hybrid work model
Effective performance in this job requires comfort with rapid development and the aptitude to promptly address consultative demands. You have great interpersonal skills and can interact with and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization, including senior management.

For New York City only: The salary range for this position is $118,000 - $170,000. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, and benefits including health care, leave, and retirement plans. Your total compensation may vary based on role, location, department and individual performance.
