KBR Abu Dhabi PMC Team  is currently looking to fill a position of Lead Instrumentation & Control Engineer  for an Offshore Island Project to be based in UAE ( Abu Dhabi) as soon as the administrative processes are completed, will then relocate to Spain Office and then return to Abu Dhabi .

Job Purpose

The Lead Instrumentation & Control Engineer is responsible for leading all instrumentation, control systems, automation, and safety system engineering activities for ADNOC Offshore projects. The role ensures that design, procurement, installation, testing, and commissioning activities are executed in compliance with ADNOC standards, international codes, project specifications, and safety requirements throughout FEED, Detailed Engineering, EPC, Commissioning, and Start-up phases.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

  • Lead Instrumentation & Control engineering activities for offshore platforms, process facilities, pipelines, wellhead towers, and utility systems.
  • Manage a team of Instrumentation, Control Systems, and Telecom Engineers/Designers.
  • Ensure timely delivery of engineering deliverables within budget and schedule requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance and solutions for complex instrumentation and control issues.

Instrumentation Engineering

  • Review and approve:
    • Instrument Index
    • Instrument Data Sheets
    • Instrument Specifications
    • Hook-Up Drawings
    • Loop Diagrams
    • Cable Schedules
    • Wiring Diagrams
    • Instrument Location Layouts
    • MTOs (Material Take-Offs)
  • Ensure proper selection and sizing of field instrumentation including:
    • Pressure Instruments
    • Temperature Instruments
    • Flow Meters
    • Level Instruments
    • Control Valves
    • Safety Relief Monitoring Instruments
    • Analyzers and Gas Detection Systems

Control & Automation Systems

  • Lead engineering activities related to:
    • Distributed Control Systems (DCS)
    • Emergency Shutdown Systems (ESD)
    • Fire & Gas Systems (F&G)
    • SCADA Systems
    • PLC Systems
    • Integrated Control and Safety Systems (ICSS)
  • Develop Control Philosophies and Functional Design Specifications (FDS).
  • Review Cause & Effect Diagrams and Logic Narratives.
  • Support system architecture development and cybersecurity compliance requirements.

Safety Instrumented Systems

  • Ensure compliance with IEC 61508 and IEC 61511 requirements.
  • Participate in:
    • HAZOP Studies
    • SIL Assessments
    • LOPA Workshops
    • Safety Reviews
  • Review Safety Requirement Specifications (SRS).
  • Support implementation of Safety Instrumented Functions (SIFs).

Telecom & Interface Coordination

  • Coordinate with telecom discipline for integration of:
    • PA/GA Systems
    • CCTV Systems
    • Access Control Systems
    • Fiber Optic Networks
    • Marine Communication Systems
    • Radio Communication Systems
  • Ensure effective integration of instrumentation with electrical and telecom systems.

Procurement & Vendor Management

  • Prepare and review Material Requisitions (MRs) and Technical Bid Evaluations (TBEs).
  • Review vendor packages and documentation.
  • Conduct technical clarification meetings with suppliers and contractors.
  • Ensure vendor compliance with ADNOC and project requirements.

Construction & Commissioning Support

  • Provide technical support during fabrication, installation, and construction activities.
  • Review testing and commissioning procedures.
  • Witness:
    • FAT (Factory Acceptance Tests)
    • SAT (Site Acceptance Tests)
    • Integrated System Tests
  • Support pre-commissioning, commissioning, start-up, and handover activities.

Quality, Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with:
    • ADNOC Standards
    • IEC Standards
    • ISA Standards
    • API Standards
    • ISO Standards
    • NFPA Requirements
  • Participate in design reviews, audits, and project assurance activities.
  • Promote HSE requirements and engineering best practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
  • Master's Degree in Control Systems, Automation, or Instrumentation Engineering preferred.
  • Professional Engineering Certification is advantageous.

Experience

  • Minimum 18–20 years of experience in Instrumentation & Control Engineering within the Oil & Gas industry.
  • Minimum 8–10 years in a Lead I&C Engineering role.
  • Extensive experience in FEED, Detailed Engineering, EPC, Brownfield, and Greenfield projects.
  • Strong offshore facility experience including platforms, wellhead towers, subsea interface systems, and central processing facilities.

Skills Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • Master's degree in Control Systems, Automation, or Instrumentation Engineering
  • Professional Engineering certification
  • 18-20 years' experience in Instrumentation & Control Engineering within Oil & Gas
  • 8-10 years in a Lead I&C Engineering role
  • Extensive FEED, Detailed Engineering, EPC, Brownfield and Greenfield project experience
  • Strong offshore facility experience (platforms, wellhead towers, subsea interfaces, central processing facilities)
  • Proven knowledge of DCS, ESD, Fire & Gas, SCADA, PLC and ICSS architectures
  • Experience with IEC 61508 / IEC 61511, SIL assessments, HAZOP and LOPA workshops
  • Experience with FAT, SAT, integrated system tests, commissioning and start-up support
  • Procurement and vendor management experience (Material Requisitions, Technical Bid Evaluations, vendor package review)
  • Ability to lead and manage a team of Instrumentation, Control Systems and Telecom engineers/designers
