THE JOB:
As a Lead Filtration Mechanical Life Support System Specialist for the Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay, you are an essential part of guest experience. In this role you’ll be responsible for operating and maintain life support systems essential to the health and safety of our exhibits. This includes monitoring water quality and performing regular equipment maintenance.
THE DAY-TO-DAY:

Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on life support equipment such as pumps, motors, air compressors, heat exchangers, ozone generators and piping
-
Monitor and maintain chemical balance/water quality of exhibit water to meet the specifications and standards of Shark Reef
-
Schedules special projects and renovations including maintenance and plumbing
-
Inventory and ordering of materials necessary for life support operations and maintenance
-
Trains, mentors and provides daily work plans for each of the three shifts to delegate specific tasks

Accurate record keeping of activity, inventory, maintenance, round sheets, water usage and water distribution logs

Assist with the organization of and participation in live animal transports

Install and repair small-scale plumbing and piping systems in PVC, as needed
-
Assist with diving operations and animal husbandry procedures as needed

Interacts with guests, management, veterinarians, and other individuals as required
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
-
Is a minimum of 18 years of age
-
Must currently hold or be willing to obtain open water SCUBA dive certification
-
Has a high school diploma, GED or equivalent education experience
-
Has experience with aquarium systems and a strong understanding of water chemistry
-
Has a minimum of two years’ experience working with centrifugal pumps and motors
-
Has prior experience with municipal water, water processing, wastewater systems, or aquatic animal life support system
-
Is committed to animal welfare
-
Is comfortable working effectively indoors and outdoors
-
Has prior leadership experience in any capacity
-
Has a flexible schedule
