About this role:
Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Architect to help shape digital strategy and the target technology ecosystem. In this role, the architect will contribute to the evolution of the target architecture toward business capabilities that are modular, composable cloud-native services on modernized infrastructure. The architect will partner with domain architects to design target banking platforms that promote reuse, resiliency, agility, and customer centricity.
The architect will be a strong technologist who can operate both broadly and deeply, with the ability to work across domains through an understanding of available technology and tools and demonstrated expertise in solution architecture practices. The candidate must be able to work effectively in a rapidly changing environment and possess strong communication, sound judgment, and reasoning skills.
In this role, you will:
  • Partner with senior leadership to support development and delivery of architectural frameworks for complex business and technical needs across multiple groups
  • Lead the resolution of complex challenges requiring evaluation across multiple areas, delivering scalable and sustainable solutions
  • Provide guidance on implementing transformation strategy, including documenting current state, target state, and transition architectures
  • Engage with professionals and managers across the enterprise and serve as an architectural advisor within assigned domains
  • Ensure applications adhere to established Wells Fargo standards, policies, methodologies, and industry best practices as the organization progresses toward target state architecture
  • Contribute to the definition and adoption of strategic tools and architecture frameworks
  • Maintain knowledge of industry best practices and emerging technologies, recommending innovations that enhance operations or provide business value
  • Collaborate across teams and serve as a trusted advisor to stakeholders
  • Contribute to the development of strategy for business capabilities and support alignment to target state architectures using modern architecture principles and data practices
  • Provide constructive challenge to line of business and domain architecture to ensure alignment with enterprise objectives
  • Contribute to policies, patterns, standards, non-functional requirements, and methodologies and promote adherence with domain architects
  • Participate in architecture councils, review boards, and forums
  • Perform portfolio-level analysis to support investment decisions, rationalization, and convergence strategies
  • Support data center migration efforts with understanding of full stack architecture dependencies
  • Produce architecture specifications and documentation using industry standard modeling languages and tools
  • Support efforts to ensure resiliency, fault tolerance, and performance of architecture solutions
  • Stay current with technology innovations and apply appropriately within domain or program scope
  • Contribute to the ongoing evolution of the architecture practice
  • Lead the implementation of complex projects and initiatives that have companywide scope
  • Assist in the creation of architectural artifacts for key technology initiatives
  • Participate in the definition of future technology architecture and strategy
  • Identify medium to high architectural impact projects
  • Conduct complex technology and system assessments for architecture solutions
  • Communicate the companywide Architecture strategy and direction to both management and systems related teams
  • Make decisions in the development and maintenance of architectures
  • Understand compliance and risk management requirements for supported areas
  • Ensure applications adhere to established Wells Fargo standards, policies, methodologies and industry best practices
  • Collaborate and consult with peers, colleagues and managers to resolve issues and achieve goals
Required Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of architecture experience, including enterprise, domain, or solution architecture, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, or education
  • 5+ years of experience defining architecture standards or direction and leading architecture governance activities
  • 5+ years of experience assessing complex technology designs and providing clear, defensible architectural recommendations
  • 5+ years of experience working across multiple teams, platforms, or lines of business

  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to influence across organizational levels, including senior management
  • Ability to challenge, influence, and collaborate to build effective relationships
  • Knowledge of application technology management, including development and support across systems and business functions
  • Ability to identify issues, design solutions, and communicate effectively through resolution
  • Demonstrated ability to be proactive, innovative, and creative in meeting business needs
  • 3+ years of experience with industry standards such as BIAN, TOGAF, or similar, and modeling languages such as ArchiMate, UML, BPMN leveraging tools like BizzDesign Horizzon
  • Bachelor's and/or master's in computer science or information systems
  • Experience contributing to architecture roadmaps aligned to business strategy and objectives
  • Understanding of cloud technologies (GCP, Azure) and familiarity with data center exit strategies
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail
  • Experience supporting application rationalization and technology assessments
