POSITION SUMMARY
The Lead Engineer role has responsibility over the entirety of plant operations. The two operating departments are Consumer and Away From Home. The Consumer department has three processing/packaging lines and pack out glass jars and plastic bottles. These high volume, highly automated lines produce Jams, Jellies, Preserves (JJPs), Breakfast Syrup, Fruit Spreads, and Ice Cream Toppings. Away From Home produces plastic portion control cups of JJP and Breakfast Syrup.
Each department has dedicated Process Engineer and Engineering Co-Op positions. The Lead Engineer will teach, coach, and mentor these professionals to hone their engineering and leadership skills. In close concert with the plant’s Technical Manager, the Lead Engineer will help build and execute the operation’s team CapEx plan. While personally managing high profile or cash intense CapEx projects, the Lead Engineer will help ensure the other project managers are using the IM Pillar tools. In addition to project work, the role will also serve as the subject matter expert for the processing systems across the plant and aid in daily corrective/preventative actions. KPI responsibility exists for safety, quality, reliability, cost, delivery, and sustainability.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Teach, coach, and mentor the site’s Process Engineering team – building skills in troubleshooting, project management, and effective use of SQMS pillar tools
- Effectively manage large scope CapEx projects to completion on time and on budget
- Lead the plant’s Engineering Co-Op program – recruitment, interviewing, manager selection, onboarding, and performance management
- Alongside, the Technical Manager, ensure an effective 3-5year maintain plants CapEx plan is built
- Maintain open and effective communication with the Plant Engineer, Controls Engineer, and E&I team
- Lead the E&I Weekly Prioritization meeting to ensure operation’s priorities are understood
- Own, execute, and report on Plant Master Plan items
- Own Focused Improvement projects – coach others through the 7 Step Process
- Supply onsite support for High Performance Work Team meetings across the plant
- Backfill Process Engineers during times of vacancy
- Night and/or weekend support when necessary to support operations or execute projects
OUR REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in engineering; additional education - MBA preferred
- Relevant experience leading projects and processes
- At least 5 years of experience in operations or project management
- Organizational leadership experience, ability to energize, provide effective direction and develop talent
- Strong analytical, operational, and interpersonal aptitude
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written with an ability to recognize and appraise seriousness and urgency of issues as they relate to department activities
- Ability to work well and maintain strong business relationships with other departments, outside suppliers and other business partners to deliver against business/organization goals
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and organize daily activities to finish required work within agreed to commitments and deadlines with business needs in mind
- Demonstrate high personal integrity; Ethical, trustworthy, and dependable with focus on customer needs and objectives
- Track record of delivering business results
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally
