What you’ll do
As a Lead Engineer, you will:
- Conduct power system research involving modeling and simulation of electrical components and networks, design of protection, stability, faults and controls, and test lab scale circuit
- Simulate and analyze electrical power systems consisting of electromechanical systems, renewable generation, conventional generation and controls. Develop algorithms for power system optimization, generation scheduling and dispatch for grid connected and microgrid systems. Develop and implement in hardware advanced controls of electrical system.
- Manage program execution, budget, identify and mitigate risks, and ensure timely deliverables. Hold self and program team members accountable towards business deliverables.
- Collaborate with both GE Vernova product engineers and Advanced Research team members on technical projects. Work with multi-disciplinary boarder team or independently deliver based on the requirements of project.
- Represent research through written proposals and oral presentations to business customers and at technical conferences. Use some level of judgment and have the ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters but with guidance. Use prior experience and on-the-job training to solve straightforward tasks. Have access to technical skills and analytic thinking required to solve problems. May use multiple internal sources outside of own team to arrive at decisions. Gain an in-depth understanding of key business drivers and use this understanding to accomplish own work, shape collaborations, lead tasks and/or projects.
What you’ll bring (Basic Qualifications)
- Doctorate degree in Power Systems with atleast 5 years of experience or a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field with at least 7 years of industry experience in an advanced technology development environment with designing, building and testing power systems
- Demonstrated expertise in power system operation and, power system simulation and analysis, power system dynamics, transients, protection and stability. Understanding of grid energy management systems and optimization.
- Hands-on hardware design and build experience in power systems experimental set-up with real-time simulators, controllers, power supplies, relays etc. Experience in system simulation tools such as PSCAD, Matlab/Simulink, Opal-RT, RTDS, DigSilent etc.
- Ability to work independently as well as in collaborative team environment. Unfailing dedication to deadlines and commitments.
