The Role

Job Description SummaryEdison Works, the military business unit of GE Aerospace, is on the front line of developing advanced technology to support our nation’s defense. The Next Generation Products team is responsible for all future New Product Introduction (NPI) programs developing from GE Aerospace’s investments in science and technology. The Lead Performance Engineer is an individual contributor role and will be responsible for executing thermodynamic trade studies, modeling of the engine cycle, and supporting engine testing. The role has some autonomy but is focused on execution of activities within an operating discipline covered by standard functional practices and procedures. Some judgment may be required but this is typically with guidance.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Demonstrated capability of execution and interrogation of an engine aero-thermodynamic cycle model. In addition, will work collaboratively with the Operability, Systems, Aero, Heat Transfer, Controls, and hardware design disciplines to solve technical challenges.
  • Defines and conducts testing of engine systems, identifying the best testing strategy and measurement system.
  • Organize assigned tasks and provide leadership within a cross-functional team to help prioritize and complete tasks. Develop and execute action plans needed to resolve technical issues.
  • Reports performance with respect to the guaranteed values in accordance with industry codes and standards.
  • Delivers customer solutions that properly balance cost and benefit (including architecture, key design trade-offs, flow-down of requirements and flow-up of capability).
  • Communicates complex technical information to internal and external customers using clear, concise methods.
  • A job at this level is likely to be an individual contributor with proven interpersonal skills or an early people leader who can hire and develop talent. Provides informal guidance to new team members

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college in Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering (or a similar discipline focused on thermodynamics or aerothermal sciences).
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a Performance Engineering or similar position.
  • Due to the nature of the duties of this position, this role requires the individual to obtain and maintain US Government Security Clearance; prerequisite for a security clearance is U.S. citizenship
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required.  We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.

Desired Characteristics

  • Active US Government Security Clearance (Secret or above)
  • Strong technical aptitude, including applicable engineering tools and systems (NPSS, Python for data analytics, etc.)
  • Relevant prior experience in an adjacent technical discipline including control systems, operability, modeling and simulation, or transient analysis.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills
  • Master's Degree in Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering related to turbomachinery cycle design, testing, or systems engineering
