Job Description
Shape the tools behind LEGO® creativity
Every decoration on a LEGO® element, every printed pattern, sticker, and visual detail starts with our graphic designers and 3D artists. As Lead Engineer, you’ll own the tools and pipelines they rely on to create those assets, from early design through to physical production and our digital experiences: model CAD, 3D rendering, and game-ready content.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role where your architectural decisions have a visible, tangible impact. Literally on the bricks in someone’s hands.
Core Responsibilities
· Lead the technical direction of the decoration and graphics pipeline, the toolchain that takes a designer’s artwork from concept to printable element and digital asset.
· Architect and build cloud-backed services (AWS) and desktop applications that our designers use daily, working in C# and Python.
· Partner with product managers and design leads to shape what we build next, turning creative workflow problems into well-scoped engineering solutions.
· Improve system reliability and developer experience across the team’s services, from development through production.
· Evaluate and introduce new technologies where they solve real problems, including AI-assisted workflows for creative tooling.
· Collaborate across teams to connect our pipelines with the broader LEGO® digital value chain.
Play your part in our team succeeding
You’ll join a team within LEGO® Digital Technology that builds applications for our design colleagues, the people who create new LEGO® elements and products. The Graphic & Color team specifically supports the artists who produce decorations and visual elements used on physical bricks and across our digital platforms.
It’s a small, focused team where your work has direct impact. The designers are your users, they sit nearby, and you’ll see your tools used in the creation of products that millions of people enjoy.
Do you have what it takes?
· Significant software engineering experience, with a track record of building and shipping production systems.
· Strong in at least one of C# or Python, with working familiarity with the other.
· Experience designing cloud-based architectures, preferably on AWS.
· Ability to lead technical direction for a feature team, making architectural decisions, running technical discussions, and aligning engineering work with product goals.
· Clear, effective communication with both technical and non-technical collaborators.
Nice to have
· Experience as a technical lead or team lead, with a genuine interest in mentoring.
· Familiarity with TypeScript and modern frontend frameworks.
· Experience with the Qt Framework or Adobe Illustrator plugin development.
· Interest in applying AI to improve tooling and creative workflows.
· Comfort with Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD practices.
· Passion for clear technical documentation and visual communication.
