Job Duties and Responsibilities
As part of the Wireless Core Engineering and Operations team, this Engineer will join the team of passionate engineers with start-up spirit to deploy and debug Boost Mobile's cloud native standalone 5G core network. This team focuses on the deployment of 5G voice and packet core powered by Nokia, Mavenir and Oracle working in a live production environment, using CI/CD operations in order to test, debug, and deploy solutions. This position will contribute to ongoing process improvement reviews, identifying areas for automation and overall efficiency improvements to help increase service up-time and overall customer experience. In this role, you will:
Deploy and support 5G signaling core network functions over public cloud standalone 5G network.
Involved in monitoring the system health of signaling network functions using KPIs and alarms
Ensure that solutions adhere to defined standards and best practices and/or assist in the development of these standards and best practices.
Participate in the investigation of innovative 5G technologies to improve the network virtualization infrastructure.
Engage with vendor personnel to set up/validate new services and features as well as upgrades.
Possess extensive hands-on experience with the 5G signaling core domain, related network functions and call flows.
Able to work in a fast-paced environment, under pressure, with strict deadlines, both as an individual contributor and team player.
Participates in knowledge transfer, documentation and information sharing while staying abreast of new technology/technical areas.
Should be available to support production issues, after hours as well as a rotational on-call.
Skills, Experience and Requirements
As a successful Lead 5G Signaling Engineer, you will have:
Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications or Electronics/Computer Engineering.
8-14 years of experience working within the wireless industry on either the carrier or vendor side of the house.
Strong understanding of TCP/IP networking and familiarity with TCP, UDP, SCTP, HTTP, Diameter protocols and 5G interfaces.
Hands-on experience with 5G signaling and packet core network functions incl NRF, PCF, BSF, AMF, SMF.
Prior experience deploying and managing signaling and packet core elements in Tier I / II Carrier networks.
Prior experience validating 5G signaling calls with detailed call flow analysis.
Working knowledge in a Virtualization platform based on a Cloud Native Principle.
Familiarity with containers and relevant technologies such as Kubernetes, Docker.
Familiar with DevOps and CI/CD methodology and related tools.
Knowledge of Protocol Analysers, Wireshark, NetScout, RADCOM or other similar tools.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Self-starter, capable of working independently, innovative and eager to learn state-of-the art technologies.
