The Lead DMP Artist is responsible for overseeing the creative and technical quality of both 3D environments and 2.5D matte paintings across a show or sequence. This includes building key assets, guiding projection workflows, managing task distribution, and collaborating with other departments to ensure seamless integration across CG and comp.

Duties
- Team management: Guide artists across environment and DMP tasks, layout and projections. Act as the go-to contact for team progress and troubleshooting. Balancing hands-on work with oversight responsibilities
- Quality Control: Review assets and DMPs for scale, accuracy and consistency
- Hero Builds: Create key environment elements or complex projection setups when needed
- Cross-Department Collaboration: Work with layout, lighting, and comp to align assets and projections
- Planning: Assist production with estimates, task priorities and team scheduling
- Scene Management: Ensure environments and projections are clean and well-structured
- Mentorship: Foster a supportive, productive, and communicative team culture. Coaching and providing feedback and development opportunities
- Workflow Improvement: Contribute to tool specs, standards, and pipeline efficiency
- Deliver high-quality environments and matte paintings that support storytelling
- Lead team performance through feedback, clarity, and technical direction
- Align 2.5D and 3D outputs with creative vision and production needs
Skills, attributes and experience:
- Advanced in Maya, Houdini, Photoshop, Nuke, and projection workflows
- Strong understanding of modular assets and 3D scene layout
- Excellent eye for scale, light, atmosphere, and realism
- Skilled in using lidar, HDRIs, and scan data for environment and DMP builds
- Clear communicator with cross-department problem-solving ability
- Experience leading hybrid DMP teams across shows
- Strong time management, ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and escalate delays in a timely manner
- Adaptable to change with the ability to stay focused and maintain a positive attitude
- Driven to make things better with flexibility to change course when needed
