We are looking for a Lead Content Specialist to focus on coordinating the content side of complex and enterprise clients at Socius Marketing. Socius Marketing is a rapidly scaling digital marketing agency servicing the home improvement, home services, and healthcare industries. We are focused on driving results for our clients through data-driven, ROI-focused organic and paid media campaigns. Our services include paid media, including search, social, programmatic, search engine optimization (SEO), content development, and website design & development.

The Lead Content Specialist is a senior-level role within the Content Team, designed for high-performing individual contributors on the manager track. This role combines expert-level content production with cross-functional coordination, mentorship, and operational leadership. Lead Content Specialists are responsible for producing 40–60 pages of Monthly Recurring Revenue (MRR) content per month, with a strong emphasis on writing, editing, and optimizing SEO content. As the need arises, management may decide to reduce content production responsibilities to allow for expansion of other Lead Content Specialist responsibilities.

In addition to producing content, Leads play a critical role in client account management, content planning execution, internal process improvements, and team development. They oversee the end-to-end content workflow for high-complexity clients—ensuring alignment between strategy and execution, communicating directly with clients and strategists, managing writer assignments, and serving as quality gatekeepers for deliverables.

Leads are expected to support and guide other writers, handle escalations, and contribute to the training and onboarding of team members as they join complex client accounts. They serve as a bridge between writers and leadership, regularly proposing improvements, mentoring peers, and preparing for future management roles through shadowing and leadership support tasks.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as point person for large client accounts—coordinate writer assignments, manage timelines, communicate account updates, and ensure consistency across deliverables.
  • Write monthly SEO website content with the ability to context-switch across complex client accounts and specializations.
  • Perform research on specialized topics, including complex healthcare concepts, and interpret data for use in content.
  • Self-edit and proofread content to ensure accuracy, consistency, and SEO alignment.
  • Stay current on SEO best practices and apply them to content creation.
  • Post for certain complex accounts in a variety of backend systems and conduct quality assurance (QA) on all posted content.
  • Manage all posting and QA of content for enterprise client accounts to streamline workflow among writers assigned to those accounts and reduce inefficiencies.
  • Maintain proficiency with AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT) to assist in content creation and editing workflows.
  • Attend internal meetings (department, team, corporate, and individual contributor levels) and client meetings to answer or ask content-related questions.
  • Train new writers on account-specific preferences and workflow processes and contribute to custom planning with strategists.
  • Work independently to meet deadlines while proactively communicating challenges to content coordinators or leadership.
  • Review content plans to ensure accuracy and completeness (e.g., validating parent pages, proper linking hierarchy) and follow up with strategists regarding any delays or ambiguities.
  • Create content assignments and communicate clearly with assigned writers on expectations, timelines, and strategy.
  • Format and compile content deliverables for client submission, ensuring all documents follow internal style and formatting standards.
  • Submit finalized documents to clients for review, collect and implement edits, and follow up on unresolved feedback as needed.
  • Update and maintain client-specific style guides; communicate consistent client edits or tone updates to the writing team.
  • Proof new writers’ content during onboarding and manage proofing trade-offs to maintain quality across contributors.
  • Present workflow process improvement ideas to leadership, and take ownership of training initiatives and mentorship for junior team members.
  • Support management with overflow, coverage, or transitional leadership responsibilities as needed.
  • Develop and maintain an individual development plan through ongoing education and upskilling.

Skills and Experience needed for success in this role:

  • Strong understanding of internal processes
  • Professional writing skills that are captivating, factual, and grammatically correct
  • Familiarity with a range of writing style guides (emphasis on AP Style and Socius style guides)
  • Computer and software proficiency (MS Outlook/Word/Excel, Google Docs/Sheets, ChatGPT, Jira, Salesforce, etc.)
  • Ability to follow strict deadlines
  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English, Communications or relevant field
  • Self disciplined and motivated as well as a team player
  • Ability to think independently and effectively communicate needs without causing stress on other teams or clients
  • Capability to perform own research in the absence of client details and still produce effective content to satisfy client asks
