The Role

Job Description:

The SAP Lead Consultant has responsibility for leading and managing Consultants within the Functional SAP practice. Additionally, the Lead role has responsibilities of all phases of a Vertex Tax Technology implementation into SAP, including performing project planning, requirements definition, system configuration, testing, knowledge transfer, and development of custom documentation. This role has project accountability responsibility while delivering services and project deliverables in support of the deployment of Vertex tax technology products. The role also has accountability in managing the team and working in partnership with other Leads, Alliance Partners, and Practice Leaders. In this role you will Identify and investigate client implementation issues and concerns, manage expectations, and provide recommendations, alternatives, risks and benefits, advice and guidance during all phases of the implementation. You are required to work collaboratively and build relationships with client tax, IT staff and other 3rd party advisors and consulting resources on the client engagement. This role requires significant subject matter expertise in both Vertex applications and SAP. The role may also require the ability to effectively identify and deliver tax process solutions and other value-added services that contribute to Vertex’s revenue and profit objectives.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Accountable for operational and financial metrics and the business results of the consultants they manage.

· Provides strategic leadership and oversight in support of the Practice’s achievement of business objectives in alignment of annual corporate goals.

· Independently manages and ensures all phases of Vertex projects including review and analysis of client requirements, solution design and build, testing and providing client support as needed, is accomplished.

· Creates an overall team environment that stimulates new ideas, challenges the status quo, identifies future initiatives, and instills the desire to excel.

· Provide oversight and collaborate with Vertex Consultants on SAP implementation project tasks while coordinating as Project Lead and Project Manager on several projects and provide guidance, direction and assign project tasks in support of SOW and project.

· Continues developing industry knowledge and project implementation skills and takes guidance from Practice Leaders and contributes to projects as needed.

· Provide review and analysis on solutions created by their team.

· Exercise sound judgment to manage the day-to-day client relationship and expectations.

· Responsible for maintaining a high degree of customer satisfaction

· When appropriate, assist consulting Business Development in developing statements of work.

· Assist with the on-boarding and training and development of new team members

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Determine appropriate resources of staff in order to achieve goals and objectives.

· Build an effective leadership team through mentoring and formal education that focuses on management and project management principles.

· Manage and mentor employees and/or managers on performance gaps, career development opportunities, and strategies.

· Manage and coach employees and/or managers on all human resource related processes including onboarding, performance management, succession planning, employee relations, selection, terminations, compensation and rewards.

· Recognize others’ contributions and share credit for success.

· Own attainment of high employee satisfaction and retention; lead development of program and initiatives within group to attain high employee satisfaction.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

· High level knowledge of all facets of SAP, both Sales and Purchasing transaction codes.

· High level knowledge and understanding of Vertex Software and Vertex Tools.

· Ability to support and manage a team of consultants.

· Knowledge of implementation/consulting, customer service and vendor practices.

· Knowledge of software development methodologies and implementation/testing techniques appropriate to Windows, Legacy and/or client server database applications.

· Ability to manage multiple tasks, work in a team environment and understand the be responsive to project and customer needs.

· Ability to adapt and function effectively in a fast-paced, changing environment, while working under deadlines.

· Solid analytical, presentation, trouble-shooting and design skills.

· Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

· Ability to maintain expected attendance at work.

· Effective time management skills

· Ability to manage job-related and personal stress effectively.

· Sufficient knowledge of business communications, including telephone, voicemail, and e-mail, and operations of office machines, such as photocopier, scanner, and fax.

· Willingness to work overtime, holidays, and weekends based on business need.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

· Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related discipline

· 10 years of relevant work experience in Vertex Tax / Technology Implementations and Project Management, with strong knowledge of one or more host application/Vertex Partner software applications.

· Six years in-depth tax application experience working with systems such as SAP (ECC, S4/Hana. ERP, etc.)

· Has in-depth tax application experience working with public accounting firms and/or fortune 1000 companies in the area of transaction tax (e.g., multi-state/VAT).
