Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Business Credit Specialist to join the Auto Originations Credit Strategy team. In this role, you will lead the development, implementation, monitoring, and governance of credit strategies that support profitable growth while maintaining a strong risk and control environment. Responsibilities span credit strategy, automated decisioning, credit expansion initiatives, and ongoing performance monitoring. The role requires translating analytical insights into actionable strategy recommendations and partnering closely with Risk, Product, Technology, Operations, Compliance, Legal, and business leaders to deliver sustainable business outcomes while meeting governance, audit, and regulatory expectations. The team owns strategy design, monitoring, implementation oversight, and governance activities across the indirect auto lending portfolio.
In this role, you will:
  • Lead the development, testing, implementation, and monitoring of credit, underwriting, and automated decisioning strategies across the indirect auto lending portfolio
  • Analyze portfolio performance, application trends, approval outcomes, customer behavior, operational impacts, and emerging risks to identify opportunities that improve risk-adjusted profitability, automation, customer experience, and portfolio performance
  • Design and deliver risk-reward recommendations supported by data, analytics, business insight, and regulatory considerations
  • Own strategy performance monitoring, business reviews, and executive reporting, including assessment of strategy changes, pilots, and portfolio trends
  • Lead governance activities associated with credit strategy changes, including working with partners, obtaining approvals, implementation planning, control documentation, and post-implementation monitoring
  • Partner with Product, Technology, Operations, Fraud, Compliance, Legal, and Risk teams to translate business objectives into production-ready solutions and strategic enhancements
  • Support audit, exam, issue management, policy implementation, and regulatory response activities by providing analytical support, documentation, and control evidence
  • Evaluate new data sources, analytical tools, models, and third-party solutions to improve credit strategy, automated decisioning, profitability, and growth
  • Develop and maintain policies, procedures, business requirements, and monitoring frameworks that support effective governance and control execution
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and subject matter expertise to peers and junior team members while influencing cross-functional partners and senior leaders
  • Communicate analytical findings, business insights, and strategy recommendations to senior leaders, governance forums, and cross-functional stakeholders
  • Drive strategic initiatives that expand credit access, improve automation, strengthen controls, and optimize portfolio profitability within established risk appetite

Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of Business Credit experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

Desired Qualifications
  • Advanced analytical experience in credit risk, lending strategy, underwriting, or consumer finance analytics
  • Advanced proficiency in SAS, SQL, and Python, along with the ability to monitor data and performance metrics
  • Experience within auto finance, consumer lending, or financial services
  • Proven ability to partner across cross-functional teams and influence business outcomes
  • Experience developing, implementing, monitoring, and optimizing credit or underwriting strategies
  • Strong understanding of portfolio performance analysis, strategy development, automated decisioning, and data-driven decision making in a financial services environment
  • Experience communicating analytical findings and strategy recommendations to senior leaders, governance forums, and business partners
  • Demonstrated self-motivation with a strong sense of ownership and accountability for driving initiatives from concept through execution
