About the Role
We are seeking a Lead Architect to drive architecture strategy, platform modernization, and enterprise transformation across eBay’s Customer Support Technology ecosystem.
This is a senior individual contributor (IC) role responsible for defining technical vision, architecture standards, and modernization roadmaps for business-critical platforms used globally. You will partner closely with Engineering, Product, Infrastructure, Security, Data, and AI teams to build scalable, cloud-native, API-driven, and AI-enabled solutions.
What You'll Do
Define and drive architecture strategy for customer support platforms and enterprise workflow systems.
Lead modernization of legacy applications into scalable, cloud-native, and AI-enabled architectures.
Design enterprise APIs, microservices, event-driven systems, and integration frameworks.
Establish architecture standards, best practices, and reusable design patterns across engineering teams.
Partner with cross-functional teams to align technology strategy with business objectives.
Drive architecture governance, technical reviews, and long-term platform evolution.
Champion scalability, reliability, security, observability, and operational excellence.
Mentor engineers and technical leaders while influencing architectural direction across multiple organizations.
What You'll Bring
12+ years of software engineering experience with deep expertise in enterprise architecture and distributed systems.
Proven experience modernizing large-scale enterprise applications and customer-facing platforms.
Strong technical expertise in:
Java / Spring Boot
React and modern web architectures
APIs, Microservices, and Distributed Systems
Event-Driven Architectures
Cloud-Native Design Patterns
Experience driving large-scale transformation and modernization initiatives.
Strong communication, collaboration, and technical leadership skills.
Ability to influence engineering direction across teams without direct authority.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience modernizing legacy platforms into cloud-native architectures.
Experience with AI-enabled applications, GenAI solutions, intelligent workflows, or conversational platforms.
Knowledge of Kafka, Kubernetes, Docker, CI/CD, GraphQL, and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
Experience with enterprise integrations, workflow orchestration, and large-scale SaaS ecosystems.
Familiarity with event streaming, real-time processing, and asynchronous architectures.
