Job Summary

HOOPP's Information Technology teams deliver innovative technology solutions to help build a stronger financial future for the healthcare community. As a Lead Agentic AI Engineer, you will work directly with engineers, architects, security, governance, and business partners to find high-value development problems and reimagine them using AI and emerging technologies to help our IT teams deliver on the pension promise.

Our IT Innovation & Enablement team helps teams across IT adopt emerging AI technologies securely, practically and at scale. As a Lead Agentic AI Engineer, reporting to the Program Lead, Innovation Enablement, you will be accountable for developing systems that are secure, reliable, reusable, and useful across IT. You will own initiatives end to end from discovery and architecture through approval, delivery, rollout, iteration, and operational handoff.

This is not an AI research role, andwe are not looking to hire just advisors;  this is a hands-on technical role.

We cultivate a culture that emphasizes innovation, collaboration, practicality, and the courage to challenge the status quo. This role is well suited to someone who combines technical depth with curiosity, sound judgment, product thinking, systems thinking, and a willingness to test new ideas. You will look beyond immediate symptoms, identify underlying needs, and develop solutions that are secure, sustainable, and valuable in delivering the pension promise. Success in this role requires the ability to navigate ambiguity, ask thoughtful questions, and turn emerging technologies into practical solutions that deliver measurable business impact.

What you will do:

  • Partner with IT and business leaders to uncover opportunities, challenge conventional thinking, and reimagine how work gets done through AI-enabled solutions that deliver measurable business value.

  • Shape the future-state architecture of AI solutions by translating complex business challenges into scalable, practical, and reusable technology capabilities.

  • Design and build AI agents, intelligent workflows, APIs, integrations, and reusable platform services that enable scalable business capabilities.

  • Rapidly deliver MVPs and evolve them into secure, scalable production solutions through monitoring, evaluation, optimization, automated delivery practices, and continuous improvement.

  • Evaluate, recommend, and securely adopt emerging AI technologies, platforms, and developer tools across cloud environments (Azure and AWS) to advance organizational capabilities.

  • Create architecture blueprints, data flows, technical documentation, and governance artifacts that support secure, compliant, and effective delivery.

  • Lead solution delivery by managing priorities, risks, dependencies, stakeholder engagement, adoption, and operational readiness while fostering trusted partnerships.

  • Translate lessons learned into reusable standards, training, architecture patterns, and continuous improvements to HOOPP's AI-enabled software development practices, while coaching teams on responsible AI adoption and secure development practices.

What you will bring:

  • 7+ years of experience in software development, solution engineering, or a related technical field, with a proven track record of leading complex cross-functional initiatives from concept through adoption and operational readiness.

  • An AI-first mindset that challenges conventional approaches, identifies opportunities to reimagine processes, and leverages AI and automation to create smarter, more effective ways of working.

  • Creative and strategic problem-solving abilities that thrive in ambiguity, embrace experimentation, learn quickly from outcomes, and transform complex business challenges into practical, scalable solutions.

  • A blend of business curiosity and product thinking, coupled with a genuine interest in understanding how people work, translating business needs into AI-enabled capabilities that drive measurable value and adoption.

  • Strong engineering expertise, including hands-on experience with Python, C#, JavaScript, TypeScript, or similar languages, and building solutions across cloud platforms such as Azure and AWS using modern development practices including CI/CD, DevOps, GitHub, and infrastructure as code.

  • Hands-on experience building and operating AI-native applications and workflows in production, including large language models, agentic architectures, orchestration frameworks, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), APIs, observability, model evaluation, and troubleshooting real-world AI failure modes.

  • A commitment to responsible innovation, balancing speed, creativity, and experimentation with sound engineering practices, security, privacy, governance, identity management, cost optimization, and responsible AI principles.

  • Success in this role requires strong collaboration and influence, with the ability to communicate effectively across business, technology, data, security, and risk teams, build trusted relationships, and help others confidently adopt new AI-enabled ways of working.

  • Experience in startup, consulting, platform enablement, or forward-deployed engineering environments is considered an asset.

The expected annual base salary range for this role is: $86,000 - $131,000 CAD
The actual base salary offered to the successful candidate may vary based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, individual's expertise and level of experience applicable to the role they are being offered.
