Lead Accountant

Job Summary: The Lead Accountant will support the accounting operations for a line of business at Key, ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), corporate accounting policies, and internal/external audits. The Lead Accountant will work closely with the Accounting Manager and other senior leaders in the line of business, Finance, Treasury, Accounting, Tax, and Risk. The Lead Accountant must be detail-oriented, possess strong technical accounting skills, and be able to thrive under deadlines.

Key Responsibilities:

• Create general ledger accounting entries for a line of business, including revenues, expenses, assets, and liabilities.

• Perform account reconciliations, account-level analyses, and variance analysis delivering value-added insights to help drive business results, ensure accuracy in financial data, and support decision support.

• Perform timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes and reporting.

• Prepare internal financial reports, including footnotes and financial tables, in compliance with US GAAP for various stakeholders within Key.

• Provide accounting support on strategic initiatives to line of business executives and finance teams.

• Conduct technical accounting research pertaining to Key and corporate accounting policies.

• Monitor and assess the impact of business process changes on the control environment and implement appropriate changes to ensure SOX compliance.

• Collaborate with various departments to drive growth and ensure regulatory compliance.

• Work closely with IT and Finance teams to optimize systems and data accuracy.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in accounting.

• Strong knowledge of GAAP, SOX compliance, and financial reporting.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

• Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.

• High level of integrity, attention to detail, and ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience in the banking industry or financial services, preferably with a Category 1 – 3 bank.

• Experience with accrual accounting and month-end close process

• Familiarity with regulatory requirements specific to regional banks.

• Ability to adapt to changing regulations and implement necessary changes.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

This position is eligible to earn a base salary in the range of $60,000 to $70,000 annually depending on location and job-related factors such as level of experience. Compensation for this role also includes eligibility for short-term incentive compensation and deferred incentive compensation subject to individual and company performance.
