Company Description

We welcome fearless thinkers.

For over 100 years, Maurice Blackburn has stood up for those who need us most. With courage and compassion, we extend access to justice to countless Australians. We look beyond the immediate challenge to support people in moments that matter across their lives, and continually push for better solutions for our clients. We invest in and empower our people to stand up for what we believe in and go fearlessly forward together.

We work on real cases, achieving important and positive results in real people’s lives, which is why we are one of Australia’s most respected law firms. Maurice Blackburn, experience you can count on.

About the role and team

Our national Asbestos and Dust team is highly experienced in representing people affected by occupational diseases. A team that combines deep technical expertise with genuine compassion, guiding clients through every stage of their compensation journey and delivering exceptional outcomes with care and respect.

This team sits at a rare intersection of urgency and meaning. Our clients are often facing a terminal diagnosis, so we work with real speed and purpose to help them see justice done in their own lifetime. It's some of the most human legal work you'll do, walking alongside people and their families through their hardest chapter, holding negligent employers and manufacturing companies accountable for harm that spanned generations, and helping families find closure and security rather than facing grief and financial hardship alone. Now that is rewarding work.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Lawyer to join our Abuse Law team in our Sydney office on a full-time, permanent basis. You will have the opportunity to produce high-quality work for our clients whilst maintaining a practical and commercial focus. In this role you will be constantly challenged and expanding your skill set. You will meet with potential clients and use your technical knowledge and expertise to strive for fair outcomes.

In this role, you'll play a hands-on part in every stage of the legal process, including:

  • Engaging directly with clients to take detailed instructions and build strong relationships
  • Reviewing and interpreting complex records with a critical eye
  • Drafting clear, thoughtful written communications for clients
  • Preparing briefs and liaising with medical experts and allied health professionals
  • Drafting high-quality court documents with precision and care
  • Attending procedural hearings and representing the team in court
  • Collaborating closely with barristers to prepare matters for hearing
