Labourer

About the Role

EBC is seeking a dedicated and safety-oriented Civil Construction Labourer to support operations on the Highway 11 Interchange Project. The Labourer will support our civil construction crews with a variety of general labor and site duties to help ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule. This is a full-time, on-site position based in Abbotsford, with multiple shifts available as required. The successful candidate will report directly to the Site Superintendent.

The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-conscious, comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions, and willing to perform physically demanding work as part of a team.

• Assist skilled tradespeople, operators, carpenters, pipelayers, and other crew members with daily construction activities.
  
• Perform general labor duties on civil construction sites.
  
• Load, unload, move, and organize construction materials, tools, and equipment.
  
• Assist with site preparation, excavation, grading, trenching, and backfilling activities as directed.
  
• Assist with the installation of pipes, drainage systems, forms, concrete, and other civil construction materials.
  
• Perform digging, shoveling, raking, compacting, and other manual tasks as required.
  
• Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas.
  
• Assist with traffic control and site setup when required.
  
• Follow instructions from supervisors and work effectively as part of a crew.
  
• Operate basic hand and power tools safely, where trained and authorized.
  
• Identify and report potential hazards, unsafe conditions, or equipment issues to the supervisor.
  
• Follow all company health and safety policies, procedures, and site requirements.
  
• Wear and maintain required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  
• Perform other general construction duties as assigned.
  

Qualifications 

• Previous civil construction, road construction, utility, or general construction experience is considered an asset.
  
• Construction experience is preferred but training will be provided to the right candidate.
  
• Valid driver's license is an asset.
  
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  
• Ability to perform physically demanding work and lift up to 50 lbs.
  
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and perform repetitive physical tasks throughout the workday.
  
• Willingness and ability to work multiple shifts, early mornings, evenings, or weekends when required by the project.
  
• Strong communication skills and the ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  
• Reliable attendance and punctuality.
  
• Ability to work safely and cooperatively as part of a construction crew.
  
• Relevant safety certifications or training, such as WHMIS, First Aid, Ground Disturbance, or other construction-related certifications, are considered an asset.
  

Work Environment

This is a hands-on position that requires working primarily outdoors on active civil construction sites. The successful candidate must be comfortable working around heavy equipment, construction materials, uneven surfaces, dust, noise, and changing weather conditions.

In accordance with applicable pay transparency legislation, EBC Inc. has included the expected salary range for this role, which is $30-$45 per hour. Compensation within the range is determined based on relevant experience, qualifications, localization, and internal equity. Base salary is one component of EBC’s comprehensive total rewards offering, which may include performance-based incentives, extended health and wellness benefits, retirement savings programs, and career development opportunities.
