Union Tank Car Company is seeking applicants to become a Laborers/Welders/Valve Techs at our full-service rail tank car repair shop in Evanston, Wyoming to assist in various departments as needed by plant production. The Company’s regulatory, engineering and commercial expertise make UTLX the preferred source of railcars and services for many of its customers. Primary Job Functions

Below is a general description of the essential functions of a Laborer, Job duties vary for other positions. This is not an exhaustive list and employees in these classifications frequently may be required to perform additional duties. Not all classifications will be required to perform all job functions.

• Assists various plant production personnel and under the direction of skilled labor, performs car repair work involving burning, fitting, grinding, blasting, and painting.
• Uses a variety of tools and equipment including but not limited to pneumatic and hydraulic tools, jacks, cutting torches, and forklifts proficiently.
• Completes tasks that may include changing gaskets, hoses, valves, repairing piping, and pipe fitting.
• Acts as a safety watch for tank/hopper car entry.
• Maintains area in a neat and orderly manner and reports work hazards.

Knowledge and Skills Required

• Have a high school diploma, GED, or pass a Combined Basic Skills Test
• Must be able to demonstrate job related knowledge of measuring devices such as rules.
• Must be able to demonstrate an understanding of weight volume, and other units of measurements.
• Must be able to work effectively and efficiently both as a member of a team and independently.
• Able to follow written and/or verbal instructions with minimal supervision.
• Dependable and reliable to show up for scheduled work shifts, including overtime
• Must be able to work off shift 

Environmental Conditions

• Exposed to dirt, fumes, smoke, and heat.
• Work outdoors often and be exposed to the elements.
• Physical effort in lifting and carrying materials and attaching rigging devices. Ability to lift 50 pounds.
• Moderate physical exertion is required. Positions relatively heavy objects by using a forklift or other mechanical means.
• Manual dexterity in operating control levers and buttons.
• Exposed to dirt, fumes, smoke, and heat.
• Some climbing into and out of vehicles, crane cabs, etc.
• Some outside work possible minor cuts and bruises. Must exercise caution in operation of equipment in confined areas.
• Possible exposure to hazardous materials or hazardous waste from leaks or spills of these materials while moving or storing them.
