Laboratory Ventilation Manager (LVM)
Who You Are
You are an experienced laboratory ventilation professional with a strong background in HVAC, electrical, and control systems. You combine technical expertise with leadership capability and are comfortable overseeing complex building systems while guiding and supervising staff or contractors. You are organized, safety-focused, and effective at communication, coordination, and documentation in a regulated laboratory environment.
What You’ll Do
- Administer and manage the Laboratory Ventilation Management Program
- Oversee operation and performance of laboratory ventilation systems
- Coordinate inspections, testing, maintenance, and service activities
- Develop and manage schedules for ventilation-related work
- Ensure effective communication among internal teams and contractors
- Monitor system performance and ensure compliance with safety requirements
- Manage system data and maintain accurate documentation
- Supervisory Responsibilities include providing day-to-day oversight of staff and/or contractors, assigning work, setting priorities, reviewing work for quality and compliance, providing guidance and performance feedback, and ensuring adherence to safety policies
- Knowledge of the design, operation, and testing procedures for laboratory ventilation systems, including fume hoods
- Ability to evaluate testing and maintenance processes and recommend improvements to increase effectiveness and reliability
- Generate and maintain laboratory trend data and airflow balance reports on a monthly basis
- Track and report laboratory environmental testing results on an annual basis
- Thorough understanding of laboratory operations and applicable ASHRAE standards
- Strong ability to organize, analyze, and manage large volumes of technical and operational information
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, OR
- Five (5) years of operating experience with laboratory HVAC, electrical, and control systems
- In lieu of degree: Ten (10) years of operating experience with laboratory or related systems of similar size, scope, and complexity.
- Additional qualifications include strong knowledge of laboratory ventilation systems, experience with building automation systems, demonstrated supervisory experience, and strong organizational and communication skills.
Compensation
Expected Salary: $90,000 - $115,000
Location Requirements
This position will primarily work onsite in Durham, North Carolina.
