JOB SUMMARY:
Conducts all assigned tests, regardless of complexity and records results on materials, molds, basic shapes, custom products and prototype products to ensure conformance to specifications. Troubleshoots issues with non-conformance. The Lab Technician II role demonstrates proficiency and expertise with working with required lab equipment and has increased autonomy and responsibility from the Lab Technician I role.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
• Maintains objectivity and impartiality to all test results.
• Secure the project test package and verify that all procedures, drawings and samples necessary for the test are in place.
• Plans, organizes and tests schedules and work assignments based on communicated priorities.
• Prepares, sets up, and maintains test equipment. Practices good housekeeping and organization.
• Performs a variety of routine and complex physical tests/analyses on materials, products and components according to established ASTM procedures, customer test requirements and technical advice from Engineer.
• Maintains strict adherence to internal and external procedures and specifications and notifies Lab Manager of any deviations, including but not limited to ASTM and ISO standards. Collects and records required test material, product and process documentation. Notifies engineering for resolution of procedural or other related issues.
• Performs competent analysis and calculation of the raw data of any collected test results.
• Performs routine verification of laboratory equipment under supervision of laboratory manager or Lab Technician III where required.
• Machines, blends or molds test specimens using shop equipment and machinery.
• Prepares test reports. Reviews and checks test reports for completeness and accuracy.
• Maintains lab files, equipment and instrumentation history, maintenance and calibration logs and library of ASTM and ISO standards and specifications.
• Safely maintains materials and ensures that all hazardous material is disposed of properly. Interfaces with engineers with product development by providing input on test results and analysis from product testing experience. Assists with development of new test resources as required.
• Performs work and interacts in a professional manner, demonstrating the high expectations of the lab.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
• Associates degree in a related field or equivalent experience required.
• Experience in lab setting or training and coursework in materials, laboratory testing, engineering and/or related technical classes.
• Familiarity with both Elastomer and Plastic/PTFE molding processes. Familiarity or experience with basic machining and CNC operations.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Spends 100% of time in the Engineering Lab. May be exposed to possible shop hazards including heavy machinery, fumes, dust, heat and high pressure and temperatures.

Skills Required
