Job Description Summary:
Position Responsibilities- Ensures coverage of the clerical and technical operations of the pathology and diagnositics laboratory.
- Ensures that the billing cycle is accurate and timely including credits and cancellations; ensures that the more expensive esoteric sendout tests are reviewed for medical necessity prior to sending out.
- Ensures that critical functions of the department are performed and documented including corrective action as needed. (Such as notifications to physicians, review of corrected results, etc)
- Maintains current level of clinical knowledge by participating in local or national meetings. Faciliates continuing education for staff.
- Works with the chairman to oversee the clinical teaching program and ensure that goals are met.
- Ensures that the laboratory's Quality Control program is in regulatory compliance. Ensures that there is an active review process and that variances and corrective action are documented.
- Ensures that performance improvement program initiatives are reported monthly to the director and to the staff.
- Ensures that the proficiency testing program is implemented as designed, deficiencies are addressed and corrective action documented.
- Sets goals for the laboratory and ensures that they are met. Ensure staff participation in making changes that contribute to patient care initiatives. Reports back to staff on results monthly.
- Implements the laboratory safety program. Ensures that the laboratory is in compliance with all hospital safety goals. Documents education, drills and infection control/safety rounds.
- Ensures that staff is trained in computer downtime procedures, disaster preparedness, and safe work practices. Works with management staff to improve processes found to be inadequate.
- Represents the department at the Infections Committee, Pharmacy and Therapeutics committee as well as other hopsital teams that require microbiology or laboratory expertise.
- Evaluates new equipment and technology to improve patient care.
- Acts as a positive role model to the staff in Service Excellence. Actively seeks to improve morale in the laboratory.

- Licensed as a Lab Supervisor or eligible by the State of Florida

- 3-5 years as a Supervisor or Medical Technologist III
