What You Will Do

  • Work directly with clients, scientists, researchers, and end‑users to develop programming documents, lab room data sheets, workflow diagrams, and equipment surveys for new construction and renovation projects.
  • Produce detailed laboratory plans, equipment layouts, elevations, and technical details while ensuring compliance with life safety and regulatory agency requirements.
  • Coordinate with MEP and other consultants throughout all design phases.
  • Support creative, sustainability‑focused design solutions that meet project goals and advance innovative approaches to laboratory environments.
  • Prepare and revise technical lab documentation based on verbal and written instructions.
  • Complete document production in accordance with project‑specific checklists, Gensler standards, and QA/QC protocols.
  • Contribute to day‑to‑day project work from initial planning through construction administration.
  • Collaborate with the architectural design team to deliver an integrated and cohesive user experience.
  • Work closely with Senior Lab Planners to expand understanding of client programming and scientific workflows.
  • Assist in developing standard materials that showcase the portfolio, systems, and processes of Gensler’s Sciences Practice Area.

Your Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Architecture with 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in Revit required.
  • Strong understanding of laboratory programming and the relationship between design and lab systems, including spatial, operational, and equipment programming, MEP systems, and casework.
  • Experience working directly with senior leadership, scientists, lab managers and technicians, facilities teams, project managers, and other stakeholders to define and document programmatic requirements.
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge to guide discussions on laboratory room and space development, including equipment needs and technical attributes.
  • Ability to collaborate with end users to develop process flows, planning strategies, and critical adjacencies for research and laboratory spaces to achieve efficiency and flexibility.
  • LEED accreditation preferred; commitment to sustainable and resilient design demonstrated through prior work.
  • Ability to work in the office five days per week.
